Minnesota Brass!

Our previous newsletter highlighted our international bands: Eine Kleine Dorfmusik, Original Drachenfelser Musikanten, Medevi Brunnsorkester, and Oktetten Ehnstedt's Eftr. This newsletter will showcase a group of top-notch Minnesota brass ensembles.

Lake Wobegon© Brass Band

Lake Wobegon© Brass Band The Lake Wobegon © Brass Band is a British-style Brass Band from Anoka, Minnesota. The British style is a tradition noted for its characteristic dark, mellow tone. The name "Wobegon ©" comes from Garrison Keillor's radio show, A Prairie Home Companion, and was allowed on the stipulation that the band perform at a picnic sometime for Keillor. The ensemble gives concerts throughout Minnesota and has toured twice in Great Britain.

Sheldon Theatre Brass Band

Sheldon Theatre Brass Band The Sheldon Theatre Brass Band was founded in 1989 as the resident performing ensemble at the newly-restored, turn-of-the-century, T. B. Sheldon Theatre in Red Wing, Minnesota.  The band is made up of cornets, trombones, tenor horns, euphoniums, tubas and percussion.  The group performs a diverse repertoire of brass band music.

Copper Street Brass Quintet

Copper Street Brass Quintet Copper Street Brass Quintet started in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2007 and settled down in Minneapolis in 2008. Members are fresh on a new tour program called "The Evolution of the Brass Quintet" that has dazzled communities across the nation. Their arrangements of Mozart, Brubeck, and Adele provide a universal pleasure that puts audiences on their feet.  Last season, CBSQ performed over 165 educational concerts for greater than 8,000 students!

Mariachi Mi Tierra

Mariachi Mi Tierra MN Mariachi Mi Tierra is the oldest Mariachi ensemble in the Twin Cities. Rosalio Castro, who formed the group in 2003, has been playing various Mexican styles of music since he was in his teens.  The members of Mariachi Mi Tierra have brought a great number of regional and current favorites into the group's repertoire. In addition to events in the local Mexican community, Mariachi Mi Tierra also plays at schools, colleges, businesses, casinos, and festivals.

Century Brass

Century Brass The Century Brass Band can mold itself into a brass quintet or a group of 10 brass players and 3 percussionists. Century Brass continues Minnesota's great tradition of brass bands, a tradition established by groups like the Great Western Band of St. Paul, which was active as early as 1858. The band plays a wide variety of dance music from the 19th century.
