Catalog Migration
Tuesday, April 14

If you enjoy logging into your library account and using the catalog from anywhere, at any time, you'll soon have a lot more to love! In cooperation with 76 Illinois libraries that are part of System Wide Automated Network (SWAN), HPL will soon upgrade to a new and improved catalog system.
Some of the new features include:
Better search results - Get the search results you expect with recommended titles as you type and suggestions for hard-to-spell words.
Easier eBooks - Log in just once to easily find eBooks, magazines, online resources, and more.
Keep placing holds - Requesting materials won't change. You'll be able to place holds with your library and with libraries throughout SWAN.

Learn more at new.swanlibraries.net. During this migration period, enjoy free coffee and donut holes while visiting the Library.

Tax Forms
The Library will not be receiving instruction booklets or forms due to IRS budget cuts. All forms and booklets are available to read, print, or download at irs.gov. Paper copies of forms and booklets can also be ordered online or by phone (800.829.3676)

Spring Art Exhibit
Patinas from the American Civil War by William Blake
March through May

William Blake moved to Hinsdale with his family when he was
seven and is a graduate of Hinsdale Central High School. He
studied at the Florence Academy of Art in the summer of 2012,
the Glasgow School of Art in the spring of 2013, and graduated
from the University of Illinois in 2014.

In his work, Blake uses the techniques of classical representation in order to create his portraits. His beautifully rendered paintings are filled with figures taken from western history and from his own life. Using muted tones and direct gazes he creates the sense of stillness and reflection. Appropriating imagery from old masters, film, and contemporary art, he touches on ideas of nationality, dualism, politics, violence, and nostalgia.

Artist's Reception

ReDiscover: Celebrating Home

So long "The Big Read" and welcome "ReDiscover!" Modeled on the Chicago Humanities Festival, ReDiscover encourages communities to come together and explore one topic through a variety of programs. For 2015, that topic is Celebrating Home. Programs, book discussions and films that celebrate home will be offered for all age groups at nine nearby libraries.

As libraries, we recognize that reading and discussion are great ways to explore and engage, and so ReDiscover will feature five books that all celebrate home:

At Home: A Short History of Private Life by Bill Bryson

Howard's End by E. M. Forster

Under the Tuscan Sun: At Home in Italy by Frances Mayes

The Hundred Year House by Rebecca Makkai
