Summer Reading Club
| Have Book, Will Travel Kids and Teens June 6-August 5 Whether you are being read to, just learning or reading huge trilogies, we have a reading club fit for you. Register online or at the Youth & Young Adult Services Desk, keep track of your reading and earn prizes. In addition, thanks to the Friends of the Hinsdale Public Library, this year your reading will support the Hinsdale Humane Society, help plant a tree in Hinsdale, and adopt an animal at Brookfield Zoo.
Book Your Destination Adults June 6-August 5 Hit the reading-road this summer! Anyone high school age and up can join our eight-week-long summer reading club. Register online, call or stop by the Adult Services Desk. To qualify for our weekly drawings of great travel-related prizes, register each book you read or listen to online or with a staff member. HPL cardholders who read eight books or more are eligible for the grand prize, a $200 gift card from Fuller's Carwash. |

Welcome New Board Members
| The Library wishes to thank our retiring Board of Trustees members: Pete DeHaan, Joe LaManna, Jan Letts, Connie Nelson and Nancy Weller. With continuing Board members Johanna Delaney and Vicky Bush-Joseph, we welcome five new Board members: Naveed Bandukwala, John Maguire, Callie Revord, Ross Sprovieri and Kathleen Wilson.

Homebound Delivery
| We deliver books to your door!
If you are physically unable to visit the library due to temporary or permanent illness, injury or mobility issues, the Library can come to you. Call Circulation Services at 630.986.1976 to make arrangements. |

High School Finals Service
| |
Use the Library to meet with a study group, find a quiet place to focus or to ask a librarian your last minute questions. Study rooms and group study areas are available during regular Library hours. Water, snacks, and supplies will be available during specified times:
Saturday, June 1, 10 a.m.-4p.m.
Sunday, June 2, 1 p.m.-8 p.m.
Monday, June 3 through Wednesday, June 5, 3 p.m.-8 p.m.
Open late on Sunday, June 2 until 9 p.m.

New at HPL
| Patron Holds Shelf: Patron holds can now be picked up behind the Concierge Desk on the main floor. Items are shelved alphabetically by the first seven letters of your last name and the first three letters of your first name. You can "grab & go" by checking out at Self Checkout or using BookCheck through our mobile app (search Hinsdale Public Library in your app store). Or checkout at our full service Circulation Desk.
New Copiers: Copiers in both the Youth Services Department and Adult Services Department now allow scanning for ten cents per page. The copier in Adult Services also provides faxing for $1 per page.

Summer Art Exhibit

Expressions in Color by Bret Steinhaus
June-August

Expressions in Color is a collection of watercolors that capture the ambiance, vistas, and details of cityscapes, landscapes, and portraits. The artist works from his own photography and lets his creative energy explore the patterning and transparent layering of watercolors.
Bret Steinhaus is a Midwestern, impressionist watercolor artist born and raised in Illinois, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design from Northern Illinois University. Over the past few years, he has exhibited work at the Union League Club of Chicago, Hinsdale Center for the Arts and the Elmhurst Art Museum.

Paris Pour Moi
Tuesday, June 11 at 7:00 p.m.
See Paris in all its glory as Susan Boldrey takes you from the fog on the Seine River to a gargoyle atop Notre Dame's twin towers. Susan's Paris is engraved in the soles of her shoes and in the soul of her being. Join her as she steers you through the winding streets of Paris and touches upon the traditions that will leave you wanting to return again and again!
Travel in the Land of Anne: Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia Wednesday, June 19 at 7:00 p.m.
Sarah Joynt presents a virtual visit to the locations that inspired Anne of Green Gables author L.M. Montgomery, especially Halifax and the Bay of Fundy National Park. Sarah is a teen librarian by day and an amateur photographer and avid traveler who loves visiting the real life locations that inspired her favorite books.

Save the Date for Dining at Dewey's

Mark your calendar for Saturday, November 2, and plan to join the fun at the Hinsdale Public Library Foundation's 6th Annual Fundraiser. This year's event, aptly titled Rockin' At Dewey's ... Taking It Up a Decibel, will feature Morry Sochat & the Special 20s, a Chicago band that mixes it up with blues, swing and rock n' roll. Oh yes, Oak Brook's fabulous Reel Club will cater the event.

Enjoy a Full Tea Service of scones, finger sandwiches, sweets and, of course, a classic cup of tea. Afternoon tea is time for socializing, so bring your friends and enjoy a taste of England. Limit 25.
Japan: Kooky and Kawaii
June 25
Take a trip to the Land of the Rising Sun, where thousands of years of culture and fast-paced, tech-savvy society collide. Roll your own sushi, learn to write kanji characters and design a chindogu (silly Japanese inventions). Limit 25.

Can I offer you a breath mint, General Evil? Build a super small and super cool all-in-one MiniWeapon launcher. It may look like a simple breath mint container, but it's capable of launching cotton-swab arrows up to 20 feet! Build a target and test your creation (with great power comes great responsibility - handle your MiniWeapon with care!). Limit 20. |

Afterhours Party: Ninjas vs. Zombies

Readers' Theater Workshop

Monday, June 17, 12:30 p.m.- 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 18 through Friday, June 21, 12:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 22 (performance), 2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m. Must be able to attend every day of the program
Create and perform a Readers' Theater piece in this weeklong intensive program. Teens will collaborate on a script and learn characterization, vocalization, performance, and how to work as an ensemble. Due to the program's popularity and the commitment required, a short application must be completed by June 10. Teens will be notified of acceptance by June 14. Applications will be available on our website under Teen Events or at the Youth & Young Adult Services Desk. Limit 16. Sponsored by Joanne and Jim Kowalczyk.

Program registration begins 2 weeks prior to each event unless otherwise noted. When registering online for a program with specific age or grade limits, register each person separately. When registering for a family or all ages event, fill out the registration form for one member of your group, and include the total number attending in the "number of registrants" box.

Kick-off Party: A Trip Around the World

Visit all seven continents in one day! Get your passport ready and join us for our jet-setting party. Travel to stations featuring games, crafts, and foods that will transport you around the globe... and all from inside the Library! No registration required.

"Hinsdale Reads" Poster Contest
| June 6-June 28 First through Eighth Grade
Attention artists! Use drawing, photography, painting or digital art to share what's special to you about books and reading. Do you like to read on the beach or in the car? Share stories with family or friends? Write or act out your own ideas? Whatever your inspiration, pick up a contest form at the Youth and Young Adult Services Desk and get started. Winners from different age groups will earn a gift card and a favorite author book package. All entries will be put on display! Sponsored by the Friends of the Hinsdale Public Library.

Did you know Hinsdale Public Library cardholders can receive free admission to many exciting museums and cultural institutions throughout the Chicagoland area? See the full list at www.museumadventure.org.
Visit the Library to pick up a one-week pass for the museum of your choice. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis. All you need is a valid Hinsdale Library card.
