Schedule of Public Hearings on the State Budget Announced

The Joint Finance Committee has announced it will hold public hearings on the Governor's 2015-2017 state budget bill, AB 21/SB 21, the following dates and locations:

 

March 18, Brillion High School, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

March 20, Alverno College, Milwaukee, 10 - 5.

March 23, U.W. Barron County, Rice Lake 10 - 5.

March 26, Reedsburg High School 9:30 - 4:00.

 

Municipal officials planning to testify at these hearings should review the League's list of good things and bad things for municipalities in the state budget, here.  

Recently Introduced Legislation

AB 71, Ending PILOT Payments to Local Governments for Stewardship Lands and Requiring Municipal Approval of State Land Purchases Under Stewardship. Prohibits DNR from acquiring any land under the stewardship program without the prior approval of the governing body of each local government in which any of the land is located. Prohibits DNR from making PILOT payments to municipalities where land purchased by DNR is located. Rep. Sanfelippo (R-New Berlin) The League has not yet taken a position on this this bill.  Send comments to League staff about this bill     


SB 64/AB 73, Recalculating Base Value of Poorly Performing TIDS. Under this bill, a city or village may adopt a resolution requiring DOR to redetermine the tax incremental base of a TID that is in a decrement situation that has continued for at least two consecutive years without first completing a financial analysis of the TID and without amending the TID's project plan to meet any of the three conditions that are required under current law. By Sen. Gudex (R-Fond du Lac and Rep. Vorpagel (R-Plymouth). The League supports this bill.  Send comments to League staff about this bill  


 
SB 71/AB 79Election Day Voter Registration. Under this bill, Under this bill, an election inspector's registration duties may be performed by the municipal clerk, if the clerk is not a candidate listed on the ballot, or by special registration deputies appointed by the municipal clerk or board of election commissioners, without the municipality first adopting a resolution to allow the procedure. By Sen. Gudex (R-Fond du Lac) and Rep. Theisfeldt (R-Fond du Lac). The League has not yet taken a position on this bill.
