Mark Kleemann Honored as Homecoming Parade Grand Marshal
|
| |
Mark Kleemann, current English teacher and former Athletic Director, will serve as the 2016 Homecoming Grand Marshall. Mark will retire in May after 17 years at Oak Lawn Community High School. In 2000, Mark became the third athletic director in Oak Lawn history. He also became the division chair for PE, Health, and Driver's Education. When Mark left the AD office in 2007, the teams had won nearly one third of the conference and regional championships in the school's nearly 60-year history. This was a result of an incredible coaching staff which Mark had the pleasure of working with. His major accomplishments include opening the Spartan Athletic Complex, including permanent lights. The pumping system for the pool was also replaced, a hidden but important feature for the PE and competitive swim students. New scoreboards were also added to throughout the facilities.
Finally, Mark said that the students here have been great. Many of them stay in touch through email which he deeply appreciates. His memories of them will be fond and long lasting. In retirement, Mark will be working with the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association and the Basketball Museum of Illinois. He serves on the Board of Directors for both groups. He has been an assistant basketball coach for the last 10 years-nine with the boys and one with the girls. He will miss coaching. << read more>>

Yacko Leads Spartans to Third Place Finish
|
Each week the Oak Lawn Community High School Athletic Department and the Spartan Athlete Leadership Team (SALT) selects a Spartan Athlete of the Week. The recipient for the week of September 12 is junior girls' volleyball player Alli Yacko.
Yacko led the Oak Lawn volleyball team in kills, digs and aces as the Spartans earned a third-place finish in their own tournament last weekend. As a result, she was named to the all-tournament team. She is a major reason why the team has opened the year with an impressive 12-2 record.
"Alli continues to dominate on the court," said head coach Dennis McNamara. "She is a leader both vocally and by example. She is a vital part of our current season."
Other Spartan Athlete of the Week nominees include: Mohammad Farraj (Boys Soccer), Jabari Clark (Football), Jade Ryerson (Girls Cross Country), and Jenna Cipriani (Girls Swim). <<read more>>
