Second Semester Final Exams
|
| |
Final Exams will be administered on: Monday, May 23, Tuesday, May 24, and Wednesday, May 25, 2016. Please note: Wednesday, May 25, 2016, is not a typical Wednesday late-start day. Final exams begin each day at 7:55 a.m. The final exam grade is 20% of the semester grade in most courses. On Final Exam Days, students are only required to be on campus for exam and 'review session' periods unless the student is exempt from the final exam or if the exam or 'review session' is a scheduled study hall period.
Students are not required to attend Full-Period Study Halls, Lunch/Study Halls, or Access Period Study Halls. This includes Assigned Resource Rooms, Supported Study Halls, Guided Study Halls, LRP Access, ELL/ESL Access, and as student aides. Students who have a study hall on their schedule that happens to fall in the "middle" of an exam day have the option of leaving the building or staying in the student cafeteria until their next exam. Students who stay on campus during unassigned times must report to the student cafeteria.
Final Exam Schedule If a student has an excused absence for a final exam, the student should utilize the make-up session on Wednesday, May 25, 2016.

OLCHS will collect student iPads on Tuesday, May 24, and Wednesday, May 25, from 7:45 am - 2:00 p.m. in the Media Center. Students should return their iPad when they have completed all of their final exams. Student iPads need to be updated to iOS 9.3 and be charged (not 100% but enough to perform checkout procedures). If it is not updated, the student will have to wait (15-20 minutes) while it updates before checking out. Otherwise the checkout process will only take a few minutes. We are anticipating long lines on Wednesday, so please check with your teachers about using the iPad on the final exam and return your iPad as soon as possible.
iPads must be returned, even if the student is taking a summer school class. Students do not have to return the charger. If a student fails to return their iPad: 1) the student will be placed on the debt list for $614; 2) the student will be considered in possession of stolen property; and 3) the iPad will be disabled and basically useless.

English teacher and basketball coach Mark Kleemann was recently honored for his leadership among basketball coaches in Illinois. On April 30th, Mark was awarded the A-E-O Meyer-Harte Award at the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) Hall of Fame Inductions Dinner. Harte grew up in a working class family in Chicago, became a lawyer, and in 1985 was named one of the top 100 lawyers in America by the National Law Journal. The A-E-O Meyer-Harte Award is to recognize "giving and caring persons of integrity and character who have demonstrated courage in overcoming significant adversity while also excelling and succeeding in life." The award is to "encourage and inspire others to emulate the admirable efforts of leadership of these role models: Meyer and Harte." Students from the Oak Lawn Community High School ILRP Program distributed "Random Acts of Kindness" to members of the community. On April 30, 2016, each kindness recipient received a colorful card with a cheerful message and piece of candy. Many of the recipients thanked and praised the students for their thoughtful deed. Others struck up positive conversations about their memories and connections to Oak Lawn Community High School. People were very touched by the students' manners and kindness. While the goal of this activity was to promote happiness and spread kindness throughout the community, the students also learned a great lesson in the joy we experience when we give to others. <<read more>>

The Athletic Department and the Spartan Athlete Leadership Team (SALT) selects a Spartan Athlete of the Week and an Athlete of the Month. The recipient for the month of May is junior softball player Natalia Rafacz. She went 7-for-15 (.467) during her Athlete of the Week nomination with six RBIs and two runs scored. She had the game-winning RBI in a win over Tinley Park in the 11th inning and then had the game-tying RBI in the come-from-behind win over Oak Forest. "Natalia really expects a lot out of herself, and it was great to see her smile when she came up with the huge hits," Head Softball Coach Brian Frangella said. "She is definitely one of our best players on the defense and even earned honors as the team's Golden Glove Award winner as voted by her peers."
