Spartans Earn Seventh Consecutive State Theater Title
|
The Theater Department has a long history of capturing titles for its spring productions. The spring productions consisted of a Contest Play, a Group Interpretation, and a Children's Play. Both the Contest Play and Group Interpretation earned straight superiors at the SSC Theater Festival on March 12, and both placed first at the IHSA Sectionals.
But on April 2, the program nabbed its 11th State Theater Title in Springfield. In fact, the program set an IHSA record by capturing seven consecutive theater state championship titles. Both the Contest Play and Group Interpretation returned with trophies. Group Interpretation were crowned State Champions and the Contest Play finished third.
In addition, Vaughn Smith and David Ward were recognized as All-State for Contest Play and Carl Seibel, Cameron DeLaMora, Genesis Zepeda, Brandon Hollenback, Stephanie McFann, and Xavier Jacquez-Flores were recognized as All-State for Group Interpretation.
The State Championship Group Interpretation production, Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, is about a young man who lives in a virtual video game world and is on a quest to find the recently deceased video game world's creator's fortune, which has been cleverly hidden within the confines of the video game world. Ready Player One is directed by T. J. Kahriman and Bob Beland. Cast members are Cameron DeLaMora, Megan Baker, Brandon Hollenback, Xavier Jacquez-Flores, Mercedes Lopez, Stephanie McFann, Abby Moore, Alexandra Overland, Moises Pena Bello, Carl Seibel, Nicolas Soto, and Genesis Zepeda.
Theater director Billy Denton said, "I, along with the other directors, am so proud of our students and the success they had this year. It's great to see all the hard work the students put in, and getting a chance to see our shows perform at the state level in front of schools from around Illinois is the true highlight of the season." << read more>>

Spartans Support St. Baldricks
|
National Honor Society has participated in the St. Baldricks event for the past seven years. The St. Baldricks Foundation is the largest private funder of childhood cancer research. It is the foundation's mission to provide funding for research solely involving childhood cancers. Many students and staff members shaved their heads to garner awareness for this cause. This year, OLCHS raised $3,700.00. Over the past seven years it has raised over $20,000 in support of finding a cure for childhood cancers!
National Honor Society sponsor Jessica Nickless said, "This is a phenomenal organization that works tirelessly to help children beat cancer. I am very proud that NHS and OLCHS can play even a small part in helping! Every cent raised is a step in the right direction." <<read more>>

Residency Validation for 2016-2017 |
OLCHS is collecting
residency documentation for the 2016-17 school year. In past years, the documents were collected in the summer as part of the back-to-school registration process. The intent of the change is to speed up the summer registration process and to reduce the need for parents to visit campus during the August iPad/textbook pick-up days. Families are expected to have their residency documentation submitted by June 30, 2016.
On Tuesday, February 16, 2016, each family was emailed information on the 2016-17 Residency Validation process. Within the email there was a hyperlink to InfoSnap to allow families to upload their residency documentation. Although an email was sent for each student enrolled, a family only needs to complete the InfoSnap process once. Please use InfoSnap to complete your Residency Validation process. If you did not receive the email or have other residence questions, please contact Maria Vanderwarren at 708/741-5602 or mvanderwarren@olchs.org. Although families are encouraged to submit their documentation electronically via InfoSnap, families do have the option of submitting the required residency documentation via email, fax, U.S. Mail, or by dropping off copies of the required paperwork at the school. Families that prefer to submit the documentation by hardcopy must print the Residency Validation Form and submit copies of all the required paperwork. The school will not make copies. Additionally, staff members are not available during the school day without an appointment. Residency questions and requests for appointments should be directed to Maria Vanderwarren at 708/741-5602 or mvanderwarren@olchs.org. Families needing assistance can visit campus on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. << read more>>
