Classes resume on Monday, April 4, following Bell Schedule A.

 The Spartanite Has Come Alive
The Spartanite has teamed up with the power of Aurasma to add a new dimension to the school newspaper. Aurasma is an augmented reality app that allows users to overlay videos over images to give the illusion of pictures coming to life.

Using the app, a user can hover over a picture of Yousef Qasem going up for a basket and see an actual video clip of him finishing the shot. "Linking the newspaper to Aurasma adds another dimension of reader connection. It is a great use of our iPads combined with traditional print," says Media Specialist Eileen Jones.

See how it works for yourself: download Aurasma, use the search button to type "olchs" and follow both channels "OLCHS Aurasma" and "OLCHS Public Auras". Then scan over all images in the paper marked with the Aurasma symbol and watch them come to life!  <<read more>>

ILRP students enjoyed a special day experiencing some of the great things the Oak Lawn community has to offer.  The day began with a visit to the Oak Lawn Racquetball, Fitness, & Gymnastic Center where students were engaged in a multitude of fitness

Book Club to Kick Off Teen Tech Week
To celebrate the upcoming Teen Tech Week, the Media Center will host its next Student-Staff Book Club.  This year's book is titled I am the Weapon by Allen Zadoff.  Publishers Weekly describes it as a "violent, entertaining twist on the teen spy novel . . . blunt and hard-edged."  Best selling author Barry Lyga commented, "When James Bond was a little boy, he wanted to grow up to be half as hard-core as Boy Nobody." Book Club will take place on April 13, 2016, in the Media Center at 3:00 p.m.  <<read more>>

O'Brien Goes Miles Beyond Competition on Wrestling Mat
The Athletic Department and the Spartan Athlete Leadership Team (SALT) selects a Spartan Athlete of the Week and an Athlete of the Month. The recipient for the month of February is senior wrestler Miles O'Brien.

He was the team captain, went 29-7 and was the only member of the tam to advance to the IHSA Sectional tournament after finishing as runner-up in the regional competition.

"In addition to being the unquestioned team leader as captain, he has the greatest work ethic on the team," said head coach Steve Long. "He leads the team in takedowns with the highest total in my six years as head coach. He also leads the team in total team points, major decisions, technical falls, and near fall points."

O'Brien was the only wrestler to place in the top three in all five tournaments this season, earned all-conference honors, and was named Most Valuable Player.   <<read more>>

Residency Validation for 2016-2017
OLCHS is collecting
residency documentation for the 2016-17 school year. In past years, the documents were collected in the summer as part of the back-to-school registration process. The intent of the change is to speed up the summer registration process and to reduce the need for parents to visit campus during the August iPad/textbook pick-up days.  Families are expected to have their residency documentation submitted by June 30, 2016.

On Tuesday, February 16, 2016, each family was emailed information on the 2016-17 Residency Validation process. Within the email there was a hyperlink to InfoSnap to allow families to upload their residency documentation. Although an email was sent for each student enrolled, a family only needs to complete the InfoSnap process once. Please use InfoSnap to complete your Residency Validation process. If you did not receive the email or have other residence questions, please contact Maria Vanderwarren at 708/741-5602 or mvanderwarren@olchs.org.

Although families are encouraged to submit their documentation electronically via InfoSnap, families do have the option of submitting the required residency documentation via email, fax, U.S. Mail, or by dropping off copies of the required paperwork at the school. Families that prefer to submit the documentation by hardcopy must print the Residency Validation Form and submit copies of all the required paperwork. The school will not make copies. Additionally, staff members are not available during the school day without an appointment. Residency questions and requests for appointments should be directed to Maria Vanderwarren at 708/741-5602 or mvanderwarren@olchs.org.
Families needing assistance can visit campus on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. <<read more>>
