New Courses Added to Curriculum
The Board of Education approved the new courses for the 2016-17 school year as recommended by the Curriculum Committee.

The first course is Mobile Apps Development, a year-long new course for the Business Department. The curriculum will focus on coding using the Swift program, and students will create an iOS app by the end of the course.

Next is Principles of Engineering, the second year-long course in the Project Lead the Way engineering program sequence.
Next is Heritage Speakers Honors (Levels 1 & 2). These courses will allow high-achieving native Spanish-speaking students to take a class that is more appropriate for them (Heritage Speakers) instead of Honors Spanish.

Guitar Studio was added as a
full year performance ensemble for those who have either completed Guitar I and II or have passed a proficiency exam. The goal is to give students an opportunity to perform multiple times in the community. Honors Applied Music Theory was also added as a semester-length music course offered to the students who have completed Honors Music Theory, giving students a chance to apply the theory they learned in the first course to performance on an instrument and/or voice. The music department changed the names to the following courses in order to give the courses a more appropriate name, allow males to access the top ensemble choir, and to align with the state and national level titles for competitions and courses: A Cappella Choir to Bella Armonia; Chamber Singers to Ancora; and Chamber Singer Honors to Ancora Honors. Beginning Band was changed to Concert Band and Concert Band was renamed Symphonic Band. The band name changes allow for a beginner level band (Concert Band) to accommodate students with low or no musical skills, helping to build the band program.
Finally, Introduction to Engineering Design will be the first Project Lead the Way course, allowing freshmen to take the course, which then allows students to complete a three-year course sequence (which is ideal for PLTW). <<read more>>
