Oak Lawn Digs Yacko's Performance On and Off Court
OLCHS is continuing to put athletics in a brighter light on campus. As a result, Athletic Director Kevin McKeown and the Student Athlete Leadership Team (SALT) have combined to select a Spartan Athlete of the Week. The recipient for the week of September 21 is sophomore volleyball player Allison Yacko. Even though she is just a sophomore, she is leading the varsity team with solid play.

She collected seven kills, five aces and 11 digs in a win against Evergreen Park, and she added 13 kills, two aces and 14 digs in a narrow loss to Richards. "Allison is an outside hitter, and she has had to carry the load for our team this last week due to injuries and family issues," head coach Dennis McNamara said. Other nominees for the week include Aidan Navarro (Football), Jenna Cipriani (Swim), Bayan Hammad (Cross Country), and Justin Swatek (Golf).

District Residency Policy
Residency
With a reputation of academic, athletic and extracurricular excellence, Oak Lawn Community High School District steadily attracts new families to its district. This makes enforcement of legal residency necessary as more families with school-age children move into our community. The OLCHS Board of Education remains vigilant on this issue and procedures have been implemented to identify and prosecute cases of non-residency. Only students who are residents of District 229 may attend Oak Lawn Community High School without tuition charge. A student's residence is the same as the person who has legal custody of the student.

Families who violate this law are subject to tuition payment and criminal charges. Oak Lawn Community High School urges community members to report any situations where residency laws are being violated. Community members can do this by contacting the Office of the Superintendent through email, mriordan@olchs.org, or phone (708) 424-5601.

October 15 Deadline for Health Forms

Theater Program Chooses To Rock
Oak Lawn Community High School's theater program is rehearsing and preparing to rock its audiences this year. This year's school musical, American Idiot, is a musical featuring the music of the rock band Green Day and tis the story about three young men who start the show bored in suburbia and disenchanted with the world around them. They take off for the big city to discover themselves and find the temptations and perils of growing up and finding their place in the world.

This year's productions will take place on Thursday, October 22, Friday, October 23, and Saturday, October 24, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 the day of the show. Tickets are available through the ticket hotline at 708-424-5200 x5920.

Musical director Billy Denton said, "We are fortunate enough to be one of the first high schools in the nation to be performing this musical; it's definitely an edgy and gritty look at the trials and tribulations of young adults and the hard realities that we all face when figuring out who we are as we grow older.  The students have been handling the material wonderfully, and it's been exciting to watch the songs many of us grew up with come to life on the stage."
