PARCC Testing: Week of April 27 |
OLCHS is administrating the second testing window of the PARCC exam during the week of April 27. The test is administrated to most freshmen. Those students taking the exam have been notified and were tested during the first testing window in March. Students who are required to test will report to school each day at 7:45 a.m., including Wednesday. After testing, they will join the rest of the student body and begin a modified school schedule
Students who are not taking the PARCC exam are not required to be on campus until their classes begin following Bell Schedule H/10AM Late Start.
Additional information about the PARCC assessment, including test format, sample test items and notes about scoring is available online at www.parcconline.org.

The Monday After Prom . . . |
There is a misconception that the Monday after prom is an additional day off for seniors. This is an official school day.
If your student is absent from school on Monday, May 4, 2015, a phone call is required by a parent to verify this absence; otherwise, consequences will be issued for truancy. Please call the attendance office at (708) 741-5860.

SADD to Host Post-Prom Cruise |
Unfortunately, one tradition associated with prom is the after party. Many teens and adults feel it is okay to indulge in underage drinking after special events like prom. Teens and adults will rationalize it by thinking it is okay as long as they are not drinking and driving. However, this flawed thinking can lead to dire consequences. Drinking too much too rapidly can cause alcohol toxicity that leads to loss of consciousness and even death.
SADD is offering an alternative that does not include alcohol or drugs. Prom will take place on Friday, May 1, 2015. Afterward, from 12:00 a.m. to 2:30 a.m., prom attendees and their dates can go to Navy Pier to enjoy an after-hours Mystic Blue Cruise. Tickets are only $25 per person and include the bus ride to and from Navy Pier, a DJ and dancing on the ship, food, and soft drinks. The meal consists of salad, buffalo chicken tenders, steak Panini, a nacho station and dessert station. All attendees must attend prom, ride the bus and have a cruise ticket to board the bus. For tickets, see SADD Sponsors Kate Mellone or Sue Szala in Office 117. <<read more>>
