PARCC Testing -March 9-13, 2015

During the 2014-15 school year, public schools in Illinois are required to continue assessing students for accountability as mandated by the United States Department of Education. In previous years OLCHS was required to give the Prairie State Achievement Exam (PSAE) to all students in Grade 11. This test has been discontinued and has been replaced by the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC). The PARCC assessment will measure student proficiency relative to the Common Core State Standards.

This year's PARCC exam will only be given to students enrolled in specific courses. Students enrolled in English 1, LRP English I and Honors English I will be given the ELA I PARCC assessment. Similarly, students enrolled in Algebra I, Algebra Block, LRP Algebra Block, and Honors Algebra will be administered the Algebra I PARCC assessment. While these courses are traditionally taken by freshmen, all students enrolled in these courses will take the required assessment, regardless of enrolled grade level. Students who are required to test and their parent/guardians will be mailed more specific information next week.

There are two testing windows within this school year. The first corresponds to the PARCC Performance Based Assessment (PBA). The PBA will be given the week of March 9 - 13. The second is the PARCC End of Year Assessment (EOY). The EOY assessment will be given the week of April 27- May 1.

During those weeks, we will be running on a late start schedule for all students. Students who are required to test will report to school each day at 7:45 am. After testing, they will join the rest of the student body and begin a modified school schedule. A copy of the schedule for the week of March 9 is on the reverse side of this letter.

Additional information about the PARCC assessment, including test format, sample test items and notes about scoring is available online at www.parcconline.org.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions regarding PARCC.

Sincerely,

Jeana Lietz, Ed.D.
Assistant Principal
