Spartans Join the Mockingjay!
|
Over 45 Spartans (students & staff alike) attended the Media Center's after school fieldtrip to see the movie Mockingjay at AMC Chicago Ridge. Mockingjay is the third installment in the outrageously popular Hunger Games trilogy, an exciting young adult novel series by Suzanne Collins. Students enjoyed a pizza party and trivia in the Media Center beforehand. Some students even arrived dressed in their favorite Hunger Games gear! Every Tuesday before Thanksgiving the Media Center takes an after school fieldtrip to see a film based on a popular book. Past events included trips to see Harry Potter and all the Twilight movies. With Mockingjay's cliffhanger ending, no doubt the group will be back to see Part II in 2015! <<read more>>

OLCHS Grad Hayward Makes Grade On and Off Field for Third Straight Year
|
Excelling on and off the field at the collegiate level is not an easy thing to do, so doing it for three straight years is really impressive. But that is what sets graduate Greg Hayward apart from most student-athletes. He is a model of consistency and success. As such, he was recently honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America as a three-time Capital One Academic All-America Selection for his work and play at St. Xavier University.
Hayward, a 2011 graduate of OLCHS, is a senior defensive end for St. Xavier University. He has earned a grade point average of 3.86 working toward a degree in Criminal Justice. He racked up 76 tackles, 26.5 tackles for loss and 15 sacks this season. He ranks second in the NAIA this year in sacks and ranks number one with 1.4 sacks per game. Adding to his accomplishments, Hayward has been named the 2014 MSFA Midwest Defensive Player of the Year.
During his four years, he has totaled 200 tackles, 54 tackles for loss and 28.5 sacks. As a junior, Hayward was honored as a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete, MSFA All-Academic and first-team All-MSFA Midwest League. In looking over Hayward's resume, it is easy to see what hard work and determination can produce on the gridiron and in the classroom. He is continuing to make Spartan Nation proud. << read more>>
