OLCHS Collects Thanksgiving Baskets

Students and staff collected meal baskets for the annual Student Council Thanksgiving Food Drive. Each meal basket included numerous items such as canned fruits and vegetables, cornbread mix, juice, and a $20 grocery store gift certificate. All baskets were donated to food pantries at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oak Lawn and Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Burbank.

The class that collected the most baskets was Michelle Keefe's Anatomy class. This class will receive a special pizza party hosted by Student Council for their extraordinary generosity.  <<read more>>

Student Leaders Get Motivated

Over 90 student leaders attended the annual Student Leadership Conference on November 14, 2014. This year's theme was "What's Your 3:58?"

All club presidents and vice-presidents, varsity team captains, select members of Student Council & National Honor Society, and Freshmen Academy students were invited to the conference. Students had the opportunity to sharpen their leadership skills by participating in numerous small group discussions and activities. Eddie Slowikowski, a world class runner who achieved a 3:58 minute mile, was a special motivational speaker for the event at an all-school assembly. After making the audience laugh and showing off some daft dance moves, Eddie stressed the importance of drive and perseverance in today's leaders.

Conference attendees also earned 1.5 hours of community service at their choice of various locations.

The annual student leadership conference is sponsored by Student Council and National Honor Society. Event chaperones included Mrs. Jennifer Clark. Mr. Dave Jodelka, Mrs. Kelly Kenny, Ms. Kate Mellone, Mrs. Pat Land, Mr. Joe McCurdy, Mrs. Jessica Nickless, and Mrs. Jennifer Sidlow.  <<read more>>

Silent Disco  -Saturday, December 6

The Senior Class Advisory Board is introducing a new event which will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014. The event is called a "Silent Disco". It is an unique experience in which the students are given light-up Bluetooth headsets and can choose from three different channels of music: one live DJ, and two playlists created by students.

All clubs and teams will have a chance to participate in generating the playlists. An explanatory video was shown at the November 14 all-school assembly that made the event much clearer. To generate a playlist, click on the link for the Playlist Form. Playlists must be returned to Ms. Jones by Friday, November 21, 2014.  The Senior Class is really excited about this new event.  Playlist Form
