Silent Disco  -Saturday, December 6

The Senior Class Advisory Board is introducing a new event which will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014. The event is called a "Silent Disco". It is an unique experience in which the students are given light-up Bluetooth headsets and can choose from three different channels of music: one live DJ, and two playlists created by students.

All clubs and teams will have a chance to participate in generating the playlists. An explanatory video was shown at the November 14 all-school assembly that made the event much clearer. To generate a playlist, click on the link for the Playlist Form. Playlists must be returned to Ms. Jones by Friday, November 21, 2014.  The Senior Class is really excited about this new event.  Playlist Form

Group of Students Organize a Candlelight Bowl to Raise Money for Bolivia

Ten members of the Cross Countries organization are hosting a Candlelight Bowl this month to benefit the people of Bolivia, South America. All proceeds from this event will go toward helping a group of Oak Lawn students fund a service trip to Bolivia in June of 2015. This charity event is supported by family, friends, and OLCHS. "Bowling for Bolivia" 2014 will take place on Friday, November 21, from 9:00 p.m. to Midnight at Arena Lanes in Oak Lawn (4700 West 103rd Street, Oak Lawn Illinois). The evening will consist of dinner followed by a short program, bowling, raffles, and plenty of fun!

In order to reach their financial goal of $60,000, these ten students are continuing the legacy started by their teammates nearly eight years ago. They have come together to promote the need for aid in Bolivia. To further their cause, these young men and women have re-formed a service group known as "Cross Countries", which will focus its efforts on supporting the people of Bolivia. "Bowling for Bolivia" 2014 looks to be very successful. With the support of the community, these students hope to raise over $10,000 from this event. The members of "Cross Countries" include Nick Minnella, Enrique Miranda, Jake Kupres, Kamila Zaremba, Luis Garcia, Tom Parzadka, Pat Gudinowski, Sergio Serna, Miles O'Brien, and Omar Abdelrahman.

To get more information about "Cross Countries", or to make a donation, please contact Cross Countries Adviser Chris Repa at (708) 203-2254 or at [email protected]. Donations should be in the form of a check made payable to "Cross Countries" and sent to Chris Repa at Oak Lawn Community High School, 9400 Southwest Highway, Oak Lawn, Illinois 60453. You may also donate on our website at www.youcaring.com/crosscountries.  <<read more>>

Family Reading Night  -Thursday, November 20

The Media Center will host Family Reading Night on November 20, 2014, from 7:00-8:00pm.  The event will be an evening book club for students, parents, staff, and the community (all members of the "Spartan Family!").  There will be discussion and activities based around the popular novel Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell.  The book is a sweet, gritty, and unforgettable story about two misfits in love.  It's a rare bestseller aimed at teens and adults.

Family Reading Night is in conjunction with Illinois Reads, a statewide campaign to promote reading for all Illinois citizens created under the auspices of the Illinois Reading Council.  Illinois Reads focuses on reading in school, as well as at home. Residents across the state from Rockford to Carbondale will be partaking in upcoming family literacy nights.  The culmination event is a statewide celebration of literacy on the same evening as the book club.

Registration for Family Reading Night must be completed online
