August Enrollment Verification Process

Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians:

I am excited to let you know that OLCHS is changing our traditional August Schedule/Textbook Pick-Up Sessions to an online process. Instead of requiring families to visit campus, stand in line, and travel from station to station, families will now complete the process online through Skyward Family Access. Information included in this letter will explain how some of the traditional stations will be handled for the 2014-15 school year.

Although the online August Enrollment Verification process in Skyward will not be available until Monday, July 21, 2014, families should submit the 2014-15 Residency Validation Form as soon as possible. The form and documentation can be dropped-off, faxed, mailed, or emailed. Failure to submit the Residency Validation Form will prevent your online access to the August Enrollment Verification within Skyward.

Additionally, families requiring payment plans, fee waivers, free/reduced lunch applications, or that have unique residency validation requirements must attend a business office screening session on:

       Wednesday, July 16, 2014          7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

       Tuesday, July 22, 2014                7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Families who do not have internet access or have technical issues with Skyward, may attend one of the following sessions for assistance (Please note, attendees will complete the same online process, but on school computers and with the assistance of our staff):

The online enhancement is designed to save families time and to make the back-to-school enrollment process more convenient. Most families will not have a need to visit campus. Again, submitting your Residency Validation Form now will allow you access on July 21, 2014, to complete the August Enrollment Verification process in Skyward.

Please review the entire packet and contact the following staff members for questions:

Catch the Reading Bug

The English Department believes that reading is not only one of life's simplest pleasures, but also a vital skill that provides a wealth of educational benefits. Because reading is a habit that grows richer with practice, a required summer reading program for English I, English II, and English III offers our Spartan students choice and flexibility to read texts that will interest them. Students enrolled in honors courses will also complete a summer reading assignment. Detailed descriptions of the book choices will be communicated by English teachers and Media Center staff members, and that information can also be found on the school website.

Students should bring the required book to English class during the first week of school. When school begins in August, each student will be asked to respond and reflect on his or her summer reading choice in one of the first assignments of the year. The best way to prepare for success is to read actively, talk about the books with friends and family, take notes, and complete the specified summer reading assignment (available to print at www.olchs.org/academics/english.asp). Happy reading!
