Illinois 5Essential Survey  -Need Parents!

5Essentials

Teachers, parents, and students across Illinois have the opportunity to participate in the Illinois 5Essentials Survey: Organizing Schools for Improvement. This survey was designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child's school from the perspective of teachers, parents, and students. Your voice is essential to help us understand the conditions of Oak Lawn Community High School and guide improvement.

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by the University of Chicago, on behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education. The state will provide survey results for individual schools only if a school has at least 30 percent of parents take the survey. All survey responses will be kept confidential. The survey usually takes less than ten minutes. The Illinois 5Essentials Survey identifies five indicators that can lead to important student outcomes, including test score gains.  <<read more>>

Vocational Life Skills Program Emphasizes Team Work

Anyone who has played team sports or belonged to a club has heard the saying There is no I in Team. The Vocational Life Skills Program, which teaches employment skills through on the job training, has embraced this philosophy. This year the program implemented a team approach to achieving excellence in completing work tasks. Students recognize that when they work together they get better results. To develop a team work attitude, student workers are encouraged to be team players by supporting and helping each other to achieve their best productivity and quality. The students have chosen to name their team Team Work . Supervising staff are coaches, and students rotate weeks as team leaders. Leadership training is an important part of the program. Their motto is "A good job is everyone's job." The program also celebrates their successes as a team.  <<read more>>

Athletic Open Campus

Attention all future Spartans, come out on Sunday, May 4, for Oak Lawn High School's 1st Annual FREE Athletic Showcase. This event is open to all kids ages 7-14. Don't miss the opportunity to meet the coaches, step out onto the field/court, and participate in live practice drills.  The day will be broken into TWO sessions, a morning session for female athletes, and an afternoon session for male athletes. The Lady Spartan session will start at 8 a.m. In the Spartan gym and conclude at 11:30 a.m. The afternoon Spartan session will start at noon, again in the Spartan gym, and then conclude around 3:30 p.m.

Refreshments will be provided as well as opportunities to win great prizes. Take advantage of this opportunity to learn a little more about Oak Lawn and feel what Spartan PRIDE is all about.
