Heart Scans for All Students: March 20, 2014

Young Hearts YH4L

The Young Hearts For LifeŽ Cardiac Screening is being provided this year to all OLCHS students by Advocate Children's Hospital on Thursday, March 20, 2014.  All students whose parents authorize them to be tested will be screened.

YH4L provides free cardiac screenings which include an ECG (electrocardiogram) and may include a screening ECHO (echocardiogram) to identify high school students at risk for sudden cardiac death and to increase the public's awareness of this issue. To date over 90,000 students have been screened as a result of YH4L.

2014 Illinois State Scholars

OLCHS is pleased to announce that 35 students have been recognized as 2014 Illinois State Scholars.

Illinois State Scholar winners rank in the top ten percent of high school seniors from 773 different high schools across the state. Selection is based on SAT, ACT, and/or Prairie State Achievement Exam scores, and/or class rank at the end of the junior year.

While the prestigious recognition does not include a monetary award, recipients are encouraged to cite the honor on applications for college admission and scholarships in addition to completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) after January 1 to determine eligibility for federal and state aid, including Illinois' $240 million need-base Monetary Award Program.

Congratulations to the following students: Mohammad Abuosbie, Jacob Allen, Melissa Barragan, Musaab Bashir, Stephanie Brito-Miranda, Jeffrey Burzinski, Nicholas Chovancek, Clarissa Dean, Matthew Dunne, Jarad Fleming, Natalia Gawelda, Bushra Hamad, Tara Hill, Kelly Jalbert, Morgan Jozsa, Daniel Kalinin, Kurt Kuzur, Kamile Lazauskaite, Taylor Lindemann, Gabriel Lira, Kathleen Mancillas, Aya Matari, Lauren Montesano, Kristen OConnor, David Oliver, Andrea Pacetti, Kayla Reichert, Jacob Revers, John Saldivar, Emily Salomone, Adam Smith, Jason Snyder, Mitchell Swatek, Nayfah Thnaibat, and Shelby Trybula.  <<read more>>

OLCHS To Conduct Campus Traffic Study

OLCHS has engaged the firm of Kenig, Lindgren, O'Hara, Aboona, Inc. (KLOA) to study the traffic flow and parking on and around campus. KLOA will have staff on-site, mainly during the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times, to count vehicles and pedestrian traffic. The KLOA staff will be taking notes, pictures, and video of the inbound and outbound traffic of the campus. The findings of the study will be used by the administration and board of education to help improve campus safety and to upgrade vehicular and pedestrian access to the campus.  <<read more>>
