Dance Team Serves the Homeless

The dance team embodies the spirit of giving. On February 9, 2014, the team visited the Urban Ministries Men's Shelter, a homeless shelter in Chicago. The students donated men's clothing, blankets, hats, scarves and gloves. In addition, the students served 40 men dinner with donations from Portillo's Beef, Season's 52 mashed potatoes, Lone Star Steakhouse baked potatoes, and bakery cakes. Some impromptu entertainment even took place, including dancing, piano playing and singing. The men praised the lady Spartans for their friendliness, maturity and confidence. |
OLCHS will host its Relay for Life for the 12th year in a row! Relay for Life is an organization dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer research. This year's Relay for Life will take place on Saturday, May 17, 2014. Per Relay tradition, the faculty, staff and students painted the gym purple on February 7, 2014, by wearing purple T-shirts during the 7:00 p.m. varsity basketball game. Relay for Life coordinator Thaddeus Zuzga said, "On behalf of the Relay For Life Committee we would like to thank everyone who participated in the event on Friday, February 7th. Not only was it a great basketball game, which Oak Lawn won by defending a last second effort by Reavis, but we successfully fundraised over $1,500. These funds will be used to cover all of the extracurricular activities at this year's Relay For Life Event on Saturday, May 17, 2014. It isn't too late to register teams or participants for the event. We hope to see you there." <<read more>>
