Spartan Fishing Team |

The summer of 2013 was the summer of big fish for Spartan Fishing Team members. Through the generosity of Fish Tales Fishing Club, Bernard Muransky took a charter on Lake Michigan with Triple Catch Charters to land the biggest fish of his life: a 15 lb. king salmon! Mike Sutko also experienced his biggest fish, a 15 lb. coho salmon from Lake Michigan. After fishing most of the day for bass at the IHSA state bass tournament on Carlyle Lake, Spartan anglers continued to fish in the evening. Junior Andy Jensen caught a 20 lb. Asian carp and junior Jonathan Metelski caught a 25 lb. common carp. The fishing team will host one of the largest high school fall bass tournaments on October 12, 2013. Close to 50 boats from across northern Illinois will participate. Good luck, Spartan anglers! <<read more>> |
Blood Drive -Friday, October 11 |
Each year, LifeSource offers area high schools the opportunity to earn valuable scholarship money. OLCHS has earned the scholarship money for the past six years. Schools who wish to participate must host a minimum of two blood drives per year. Parents and community members can also have their donation credited to their local high school every time they donate at a community donor center or mobile blood drive. By simply providing the OLCHS donor code of OL94, the school receives credit for the donation. Please refer to the LifeSource website for a convenient donor center at http://www.lifesource.org and be sure to mention donor code OL94 when donating blood.
The school will host their first blood drive on Friday, October 11, 2013, in the Spartan Gym. Students are encouraged to donate blood during their gym period. Students must be at least 16-years old. A parent permission slip is required for students who are only 16-years old. Parents and community members are encouraged to visit a community donor center or mobile blood drive when eligible. Individuals are eligible to donate blood every 56 days. Be sure to mention donor code OL94 when donating blood. <<read more>>

Beauty and the Beast |
OLCHS will continue its tradition of excellence this fall with its production of Beauty and the Beast. Beauty and the Beast tells the story of a young prince, who is cursed by an enchantress because of the lack of love in his heart. He must find a girl who will love him in spite of his looks before the last petal of an enchanted rose falls. Director Billy Denton said, "As the song goes, this is a 'tale as old as time.' After seeing this show years ago, I knew it would be a staple of high school theater and I'm proud to be directing this production at OLCHS. From the songs to the costumes to the special effects, it's going to be a great show and I know the students can't wait to show the community."
Performances will take place Thursday, October 25 through Saturday, October 27 at 7:00 p.m. A special children's matinee will also take place on Saturday, October 27 at 2:00 p.m. where children will have the opportunity to be a part of the show and get their picture taken and receive autographs with Belle, the Beast, and the other enchanted objects. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Tickets can be purchased through the ticket hotline at 708-424-5200 ext. 5920. <<read more>>
