Issue: # 12December 2014

The holiday season is upon us bringing the usual crowded malls, busy schedules and parties with friends and family. Somewhere in the craziness we hope you can find a bit of quiet time to reflect on the year that has passed. Individually, we've impacted seniors and their families, one by one. Collectively, we've impacted the community, the policy makers, and the issues that affect our clients. We say goodbye to 2014, a year packed with change, dissension and growth. And we welcome 2015, bright with promise, opportunities and new ideas to continue making a difference in the aging industry. Thank you for being part of MASWA this year.
 PRESIDENT'S MONTHLY NOTE

I feel like we are doing things backwards in Minnesota in the last month.  We had a snowy and cold November and a warmer December.  However, no matter what the weather it can't dampen all of the holiday excitement.  From all of us on the MASWA Board we wish each and every one of you a wonderful Holiday Season!

In an effort to keep things short, as we are all very busy at this time of year, I am just going to give you one quick reminder.  Membership for MASWA runs the calendar year.  Therefore, your membership will be expiring as the ball drops on December 31st.  We encourage you to take a quick moment and go to our website at www.seniorworkers.org and renew your membership for next year.  That way you won't miss any of the newsletters about upcoming events and any updates.  Our membership dues are once again $20 for the entire year and boy does that money go a long way.  You receive discounts on your registration to the Spring Luncheon and Fall Aging Conference, two public policy meetings per year to keep you up to date on what's going on in our legislature and eight monthly meetings.  For all that education and networking your membership is invaluable so do not delay, register today.

FALL AGING CONFERENCE - WRAP UP SUMMARY

The Fall Aging Conference (FAC) Steering Committee met this past week to review our exhibitor and attendee survey results.  Each year our goal is to use the valuable feedback you provide us to improve the upcoming FAC.  We look for themes and trends within the feedback to help guide us in marketing, speakers, flow of the day, and topics of interest.  We received over 150 completed surveys and overall your responses were very positive.  One theme that emerged was attendees are looking for more variety within our exhibitor areas.   Each year our committee actively markets to new and existing vendors alike to keep our offerings fresh.  We are pleased to report we had a record 16 new sponsors/exhibitors with us this year!  Another theme that emerged was a desire for an update on current technology trends in our work with seniors.  As a result, our program committee will explore options to bring in a speaker on technology for our 2015 conference.  Finally, each year we do receive questions and comments regarding changing our venue or location within the Twin Cities metropolitan area.  In response to this, we have done cost comparisons and analyzed moving to new venue.  We researched and interviewed sites around the Twin Cities.  What we found is twofold.  Other venues that might be more cost effective cannot accommodate the size of our conference and/or the location was not as convenient for participants.  Second, other sites that could accommodate our size were more expensive and would increase both the costs for our participants and our exhibitors.  Ultimately we have found that we are getting the most value for our money with Earl Brown!

Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with us.  We hope to continue to get better and better with time!  See you on October 22nd, 2015.

Respectfully Submitted by the Fall Aging Conference Steering Committee
