Hello Brewster Day Camp,

As we March into Spring, I am thinking a lot about TRUST! Will the Winter really end? Will the flowers actually bloom again this season? Each year at this time, I flex my TRUST muscles as I wait, and wonder, and watch. Camp is a great place to hone our TRUST skills.

At BDC, we practice TRUST in so many different ways. Sometimes we learn to TRUST each other in deliberate and obvious ways such as working together on the Low Ropes Course using the 'Trust Fall' activity at BDOC (Brewster Day Camp Outdoor Challenge). In this activity, one person falls backwards into the collective arms of friends while literally being supported by the group. 

Other times at camp, we build TRUST by simply working, learning, and growing together. I often watch young campers stand nervously on the 'purple feet' painted onto the pool deck preparing themselves to jump into the deep end of the pool. The camper learns to TRUST him/her self to swim to the edge once in the water as well as TRUST the swim instructor and of course, the lifeguard nearby. Once everyone TRUSTS the situation and the literal and figurative 'leap of faith' is made, I witness such joy from both camper and counselors alike!

When we learn to TRUST ourselves and those around us, magic can happen. When TRUST becomes habit, our relationships flourish. Join me this month in practicing to TRUST!
