BREWSTER DAY CAMP Newsletter July 24, 2016 Vol. 35 Issue 13
|
Hey Brewster Day Camp! It's hard to believe that we are officially entering the second half of our camp season. While this halfway point may inspire a wide range of emotions and feelings, it is important to PAUSE. A parent who could not believe we were already halfway through the summer said, "This is our time to take a moment." PAUSING is a valuable practice that we often overlook amid the hustle and bustle of our busy lives. We can "take a moment" to reflect on all the wonderful memories we have created and also look forward to what is yet to come! I like to remind myself to: Be. Here. Now.
As I PAUSE and reflect on this past week, I am amazed by the unbelievably diverse talent that permeates our camp culture. For example: Thursday's regatta against Camp Wingate Kirkland showcased our sailing skills; Admirals Hill campers embarked on a fun-filled journey to Provincetown of biking, hiking, and snorkeling, proving their maturity and well-rounded nature; Thursday evening's potluck dessert and talent show featured stand-up comedy, dances, martial arts, songs, and sign language, and more!
And now, I PAUSE to look forward to this week, which is Tie-Dye week! Each camper will receive a white BDC t-shirt and have an opportunity to tie-dye it with Valerie at Art! Did you know that the tie-dye tradition dates back to sixth century from Indian, Japanese, and African cultures? It is important to hold on to our traditions and let them PAUSE as time passes.
As we enter the second half of the summer, let us PAUSE and truly embrace every moment, every emotion, and every lesson.
