BREWSTER DAY CAMP Newsletter July 18, 2016 Vol. 35 Issue 12

We are CREATORS. We CREATE memories, traditions, families, games, decisions, success...the list goes on. It's a pretty empowering feeling when you think about it, right? Camp is a place where CREATIONS are particularly common. Our CREATIVE staff helps facilitate campers' understanding and familiarity of what they love to CREATE.
This past week, we focused on CREATING art. Each activity frontloaded and primed CREATIVE strategies and outlets to prepare for Friday's special event. Creative Arts Day introduced or resurfaced artistic mediums and techniques. Campers CREATED songs, dance, pottery, murals, sand castle and drip art, splatter paint, and oobleck art. Above all, we CREATED learning experiences that are stored in our "camp memory" forever! This week at camp - Week #4 - counselors and activity staff emphasize the virtue of sportsmanship and teamwork as a means to CREATE cohesion and fluidity within a group. We teach that it is okay to win, okay to lose, and okay to tie. Friday is Green and White Day at BDC, where campers will CREATE an environment of friendly competition to gain as many beads as possible in each activity. This is also a special week at camp, as it marks the halfway point of the summer. We will host our annual Family Picnic and potluck dessert followed by the Camper-Counselor Talent Show on Thursday evening. All are welcome - see details below.
Here's a challenge: CREATE something that you have never imagined before.

LEAP OUT'S WEEKLY NEWS:
By LEAP-OUT Staff Writers
Hello families of BDC Campers,
This [past] week [was] Creative Arts Week which is celebrated with a special day on Friday. We all will be wearing different colors. We had many triumphs this week such as getting third place at the track meet. Every Thursday after lunch we have buddy activities- each group gets paired with an older or younger group. Taryn, the camper leader director, tells us what fun thing we will do to bond with our buddy group. This week it was writing poems which helped get our creative juices flowing. New friends joined us this week, many groups got way bigger, some groups even had to get bigger lunch tables to fit everyone! We can't wait to keep growing at camp and see more friends next week. Thanks for tuning in!
