BREWSTER DAY CAMP          Newsletter    July 3, 2016        Vol. 35 Issue 10

Hello Brewster Day Camp!

REUNITED, at last!

The word REUNION breaks into two simple parts; "re" and "union," meaning "in union again." As campers and counselors return to BDC, there is a harmonious sense of UNITY on campus; in small and large groups. This UNITY provides a refreshing element of calmness amidst fast-paced camp life.

At camp, we form special relationships. This allows friends to separate for months and miles - and once REUNITED at camp, feel like we have never been apart! On Friday night, I thoroughly enjoyed REUNITING with camp friends and families from the past and present. The BDC 35th REUNION also allowed for new friendships to emerge! Thank you to everyone who made our special event so fantastic!

This coming Friday is Grad-titude Day. As we enter Week 2, we reflect on the people who have come before us and will come after us who encompass the qualities of Courage, Hope, Good Spirit, and Peace. I am grateful to be REUNITED with old and new friends, and I am grateful for working with such incredible people!

What makes you grateful?

FORKED BRANCHES
                        - a poem by Suzy Kassem
We grew up on the same street,
You and me.
We went to the same schools,
Rode the same bus,
Had the same friends,
And even shared spaghetti
With each other's families.

And though our roots belong to
The same tree,
Our branches have grown
In different directions.
Our tree,
Now resembles a thousand
Other trees
In a sea of a trillion
Other trees
With parallel destinies
And similar dreams.
You cannot envy the branch
That grows bigger
From the same seed,
And you cannot
Blame it on the sun's direction.
But you still compare us,
As if we're still those two
Kids at the park
Slurping down slushies
Two great friends elated to be REUNITED!
Answer from last week: These shoes belong to Maegan Kelliher, Mariners Hill Head.
LEAP OUT'S WEEKLY NEWS:

We are at Sailors Hill Choice and will be writing each week to tell you things about camp as campers. It was fun to see our friends again. Here are some of our favorite parts of the week. We like BASE. One thing we loved to do every day that we have not done in a while is different stitches of gimp. I like all the activities and getting different beads. Our counselors are so nice because they watch over us and give us epic snacks. We are working hard on our backyards every day. We got cake in the morning for BDC's Birthday! There have been tons of caterpillars. The thing is, when you try to look for a caterpillar you can't find one but when you least expect, there is one is on your leg! It was really awesome to hear Marcia's story again on Friday. We like getting to swim again in our pool and at the ponds. Until next time!
