BREWSTER DAY CAMP          Newsletter      May 1, 2016        Vol. 35 Issue 8
Hello Brewster Day Camp!

We've all PATIENTLY waited and it has finally arrived...SPRING is officially here! The Mighty Month of May is upon us. And with it signals the bold fact that camp is right around the corner!
I must always challenge myself this month to remain present and enjoy the unfolding of Spring with its beautiful flowering trees and plants, and to also savor the bright sun and the longer days. I want to enjoy every moment of May. Even as my To Do lists grow, and camp gets closer and closer, I want to remain PATIENT and absorb all that is happening around me.

At BDC, we practice PATIENCE in all sorts of ways. First, we wait for camp all year long. That alone is a huge act of PATIENCE! At camp, kids wait for a turn to move to the shooting line at Archery, or wait for a turn on the swings, or wait to get on the bus to travel to adventures off campus. Campers PATIENTLY listen while a friend tells a joke at lunch, or they PATIENTLY wait for lunch - and for active camp kids, that alone can be a challenge!
Outside of camp, children spend a lot of time being PATIENT. That's why, at BDC, our goal is to have campers PATIENTLY wait for five minutes or less to do anything! Why spend your camp day waiting when you can jump right in and embrace the moment?!

At camp, and indeed everywhere in life, we--all of us--must learn the value and the peace of PATIENCE. So that, as the month of May reminds us, we have the ability to slow down just enough to notice the beauty around us.
This month, I am wishing you many moments for pause and PATIENCE as well as lots of...

Help us raise funds and join us in planting a tree in JoAnn's honor on our campus. Many folks remember JoAnn Borsari as the first Swim Director at BDC who, along with her team, created many of today's camp traditions and pool expectations. After an inspired life of teaching, coaching, and raising a beautiful family with her husband Joe, JoAnn passed away this fall. JoAnn's dear friend and BDC Lifeguard, Bob Masterson, and his wife, Diane, have donated funds to plant a tree in JoAnn's honor. You are invited to contribute funds to the JoAnn Borsari honorary tree fund  here.
