We TEACH PEACE when we invite children (and adults) to experience nature. We all feel more peaceful when we connect with the earth.
|
The classic two fingers in the air, is a universal symbol of PEACE which many cultures share.

"My country is a country of teachers. It is therefore a country of peace."
~ Oscar Arias Sánchez

Creating art, making music, or dancing with other people is one physical manifestation of TEACHING PEACE. For this reason (and many others) BDC embraces creativity in so many forms.

Dear BDC Family and Friends,
As people new to BDC often ask, when they witness the sounds of joy and observe the boundless smiles of satisfied children and truly happy adults at play and work at 3570 Main Street in Brewster, "What's in the special sauce here?"
At BDC, we are TEACHING PEACE in everything that we do and say! Our community holds itself to a very high standard of gentle communication and thoughtful support - no matter the age or the role of the people interacting with each other at any given moment. This simple guidepost of gentleness in our words and actions creates a shared community of human beings who truly enjoy being with one another.
At camp, we foster a space of mutual trust and understanding. This work is sometimes hard and that's when we remind each other about the power of TEACHING PEACE! Our camp hymn (for lack of a better term) helps us remember why and how we do what we do...
TEACHING PEACE Chorus Teaching peace, all the world around. You and me, every city, every town. One by one, in our work and in our play, We are teaching peace by what we do and what we say. Verse One It's up to us, to show we care. Reaching out to everybody, everywhere. So heart to heart, and friend to friend. Circling all around the world and back a-gain. Repeat Chorus So take my hand and come along. It's time to sing the world a brand new song! So sing it loud, and sing it clear - altogether now, so everyone can hear! Repeat Chorus
In this time of global unrest, my sincere wish this season is that we all strive to TEACH PEACE in what we do what we say - doing so with gentle words and kind actions. As Mother Theresa writes, " Peace begins with a smile." I hope that this eWaves brings a smile to your heart and that you TEACH PEACE wherever you are and in whatever you are doing this month. Sending you love and warmth, as well as... CHGS+P!

PS. Next month, eWAVES will have a new look! The improved layout is mobile friendly so that you can easily enjoy your camp news on any platform. Let us know what you think when you see our new "look!"

"If we are to teach real peace in this world... we shall have to begin with the children."
~ Mahatma Gandhi

Role models are the best teachers - no matter the age of the mentee or the mentor. At BDC, 9th and 10th grade Camper Leaders help TEACH PEACE by simply committing to being the best version of themselves when they are at camp!
|
When we feel understood, we all feel safe. Working to understand and be understood is one way we TEACH PEACE at BDC. How do you do it?
