Hello BDC Family and Friends, Happy May Day! The sun is shining and the flowering trees are blooming in Southern New England. We made it through the brutal Winter of 2015 and I feel pretty CONFIDENT about that!
Lately, I've been thinking a lot about the fine line between CONFIDENT and arrogant. CONFIDENCE means
"belief in oneself" while arrogance means, "
having or showing confidence in a way that is annoying to other people." Confidence is a noun - a "thing" that one possesses at times, or nurtures and grows in oneself when that "thing" is lacking. Arrogance - at it's core - seems to be born out of insecurity or a dearth of real CONFIDENCE.
So
how and
where does one grow more real, authentic, CONFIDENCE?
Camp, of course, is one place where real CONFIDENCE grows like a weed! At BDC, campers and counselors support one another to set goals and support each other to face the fear of possible failure and then they go do it anyway! Parents breed CONFIDENCE in their children by supporting their dreams and fanning the flames of their passion and desires.
The CONFIDENCE which we breed at camp can also be described by these words: aplomb, assurance, backbone, boldness, certainty, courage, daring, dash, determination, fearlessness, firmness, fortitude, grit, heart, mettle, morale, pluck, poise, reliance, resoluteness, self reliance, spirit, spunk, sureness, tenacity!
This eWaves is dedicated to the BDC folks who have and will continue to set personal goals and strive to grow real CONFIDENCE through their work and play. Let me know if you are striving for something which could benefit from the support of the BDC Family. I am sending lots of CONFIDENCE your way as well as...
