Hello BDC Family and Friends,

INVINCIBLE:
too powerful to be defeated or overcome
...

As I write, Cape Cod is still digging itself out after being pummeled by Winter Storm Juno - some say, the Nor' Easter of the century! (And another big one is due early next week!) I do love a good weather event - and the Cape sure can drum up a substantial one from time to time. However, I am always dismayed, after a storm like this, to see what sort of damage mother nature has wrecked on our delicate sandy peninsula.

This past week during Juno, the Altantic Ocean once again broke through Balston Beach meeting Cape Cod Bay via the Pamet River in Truro. In essence, this breach breaks Cape Cod in half. In addition, the stairs at Nauset Light Beach have been completely swept away - and there is more erosion on the beaches than one can bear to see. This destruction notwithstanding, Cape Cod remains INVINCIBLE!

Luckily for all of us, our campus fared quite well during Juno. Besides dumping more than two feet of snow which blanketed our four acres - all else seems just fine. Special thanks to volunteer, Brian Kavanaugh, who assisted Adam Pettingill, Chris Doyle, and Chris Galazzi in the massive snow removal effort which took many hours to complete this week at 3570 Main Street.

Camp is a great place to test the limits of our own INVINCIBILITY. With support and guidance from so many wonderful leaders at BDC, campers and staff learn the resiliency skills needed for success in life. Like the lessons from Storm Juno, no matter how strong the winds or how forceful the waves - we at camp have the opportunity to re-learn that we too 'have an INVINCIBLE summer within us.'

Join me soon on Cape Cod to share the INVINCIBLE power of...

The INVINCIBLE Welcome Walk in winter with the roof of the Camp Office left. See Adam's waist and shovel? Yup, that's how high the snow was! Again special thanks to volunteer Brian Kavanaugh, who assisted Chris Galazzi, Adam Pettingill, and Chris Doyle in the massive Juno clean up on campus.  You guys ROCK!

Treading water with hands up for a minute or so is part of our Red Cross Swim Program. After completing this challenge successfully, one feels INVINCIBLE in the water!

In a twist of irony, silliness is often a magic superpower when one wants to feel more INVINCIBLE.  Have you been silly lately? It works!

When staff work hard together supporting one another and having a blast doing so, the collective feeling is: We are INVINCIBLE!
