The GIFT of ourselves - unapologetic and authentic - is something that we practice at camp. BDC works hard to foster an environment where children and adults learn to embrace this GIFT of sharing with one another our true selves. Come see for yourself...it's magic!

Hello BDC Family and Friends,
GIFTS??? It's March!
During this long month of moving towards Spring in a 'come here, go away' repeat fashion, I am pondering the notion of GIFTS. Spring is a true GIFT here in New England. Especially, after last month's Polar Vortex - a special new
'GIFT' that we experienced this winter! We didn't have to travel to the Arctic to feel it's cold... It came to us!
Like the Polar Vortex, GIFTS very often come in funny packages that look strangely like obstacles in our path. Sometimes we don't see these things as GIFTS at all. Rather, we experience them as annoyances, failures, or even crippling losses. This eWAVES is dedicated to the idea of seeing every package as a GIFT, even if it comes oddly wrapped, and appears in the form of a challenge we would ordinarily never pursue or accept.
When I change the lenses through which I look, I find that what was once a challenge, becomes an opportunity. As Winston Churchill
said, "A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty."
With hard work and the support of a loving community, I find that every opportunity presents itself as a GIFT which then reveals a chance to learn, to grow, and to help me become something more than I was. This choice to view circumstances in a positive light, embracing opportunity, and growing from that experience, is a great GIFT of being human!
'Growing human beings' is the real business of camp. At BDC, we each practice looking through the lens of optimism as often as we can so that we are better able to unwrap the GIFTS around us. Come join us this summer and see the GIFT of BDC in action!
Until I see you again, I am wishing you CHGS+P,
Milisa 'misa' Galazzi, Director
Brewster Day Camp
P.S. With 114 days left until we all experience the GIFT of BDC, make sure that you are getting ready. Visit us here!
The Snow Drops have bloomed in Rhode Island and they are a true GIFT of the season! These miraculous perennials push their way right through the frozen ground - often right up through the actual snow! They are delicate, yet strong, and are a sign of hope and great things to come. Have you seen Snow Drops yet where you live? You may find them in a wind-protected South facing garden near you!
|SONG LYRICS: SIMPLE GIFTS*
'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free.
'Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
'Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gained,
To bow and to bend we shan't be ashamed,
To turn, turn will be our delight,
Till by turning, turning we come 'round right.
