TIME IS RUNNING OUT!
fake mustache
Have you ever used a pen to make a mustache on your finger? This is a silly and PLAYful way to make someone laugh. Surprise a friend or coworker with your mustache finger the next time things are getting too serious. Studies are showing that the more we laugh the healthier we will remain - and that's great medicine!

OUR NEW PROGRAM SURVEY RESULTS ARE IN

A BIG thank you to the 106 families who participated in our New Programs Online Survey. We are thrilled to have all your feedback. Though we would love to implement all our your ideas and suggestions for this upcoming season, access to indoor space on our campus is at a premium. For now we are left dreaming of a new building on our campus which might house some of these possible new programs! We will keep you posted on our efforts and look forward to debuting many new BDC offerings as soon as possible. Thanks again for your input!

Hello BDC Family and Friends,

You might think that PLAY is an odd choice of topic for the March Ewaves. We in the BDC Winter Office think that this--maybe more than any other month--is the time to embrace the notion of PLAY. With Spring around the corner (so close, yet so far away here in the Northeast!) it is a great time for each of us to define PLAY for ourselves.

For some, PLAY might mean dusting off the golf clubs and spending some time on the course. Still others might be longing to get their hands into the ground and plant a garden.

As the camp season gears up at this time of the year and my life gets busier, I have to be even more thoughtful in planning my time. In order to ensure my ability to PLAY, I actually write that time into my calendar!

We each define PLAY on our own terms and place it in our own life. Prioritizing our time in an effort to protect our ability to PLAY becomes more important as our lives get busier. From personal observation, our human desire to PLAY resides in a very essential place in our DNA. Especially this month, go make some time to PLAY and bring with you some BDC...

TX US
BDC NOW: Recently, Rob, Marcia, and Misa, traveled to Dallas, Texas to present two talks at the American Camp Association National Conference. Photographed here along with "The Counselor" the BDC Team enjoyed PLAYing in the Vendor Hall, connecting with colleagues from other camps across the country, and learning a lot in many educational sessions. Marcia received another book deal and has begun writing her next tome about all things camp. Look for these PLAYful big red cowboy hats at camp this summer! You'll never know when they might show up....

LEAP games
When was the last time that you PLAYed Candy Land or any other board game? At BDC, our activity called LEAP (Learning Exploring And PLAYing) teaches our youngest campers the delicate art of successful PLAYing. Learning to communicate and respecting the other person's needs is a huge part of PLAYing well! Sometimes these things are not always obvious. Counselors at BDC are trained in how to help campers learn how to PLAY well!

"You can discover more about a person
in an hour of play than in a year of
conversation."

   ~ Plato, Greek Philospher

When we are at PLAY, we are most relaxed and content. One reason to ensure that we PLAY is to create that level of peace in our life. For this reason, at BDC, we take our PLAY very seriously!

"It is a happy talent to know how to play."
