Look for the BDC brick in the walkway at the new Community Playground at the Orleans Elementary School. Many BDC Families and Staff members volunteered their time to help build this new play space. THANK YOU to everyone who helped GIVE BACK to our community in this way!

And honestly....GIVING BACK just feels good!

Hello BDC Family and Friends,

The theme for this month's eWaves, GIVING BACK, was set long before Superstorm Sandy began to swirl off the southern Atlantic coast. As I write to you from my home today, our Winter Office remains without power while many, many folks across the country are still feeling the aftermath of this major Halloween week storm.

Thankfully, t
he BDC campus at 3570 Main Street in Brewster woke from the storm with no damage - though it was reported that the BDC clock on the Camp Office porch took a career ending tumble in the strong winds - a small price to pay! Many in our BDC family up and down the east coast were not so lucky and they are now experiencing huge challenges as they begin to piece their lives back together.

I hope that this issue of the BDC eWAVES will inspire you to reach out and help those who might need a smile, a helping hand, some electricity, or a communal meal to share some joy. As the month of Thanksgiving is now upon us, please join me in looking for ways to GIVE BACK to friends and family near and far.

Now and always, I am wishing you...

P.S. We hope to have power restored shortly in our Winter Office in Pawtucket, RI. Please email us at info@brewsterdaycamp.com if you need immediate assistance. Thanks!
It is with a heavy heart that we bid FAREWELL-FOR-NOW and GOOD LUCK to beloved BDC staff member Mona Mudd. These past six seasons, Mona has served as a dedicated, hard working, effervescent, determined, hilarious, and down right outstandingly STUPENDOUS addition to the BDC Summer Office team.

This summer, Mona will be at BDC for a few weeks in June, helping to train her replacement (see more news below). Mona will then transition to the all-important roll of "camp mom" to her daughter Maggie.

Please take a moment to email Mona here and join us in thanking her for all that she GAVE BACK to camp. The entire BDC Family wishes you well, Mona, in your next phase 'o life. Welcome to the other side of the BDC Office window Mona Mudd!!!
Liz picture
Please join me with excitement as we welcome Liz Mahoney to the BDC Office team! Liz has already begun her training in the Winter Office for her new role as Associate Camp Director this summer. Liz will replace Mona in the Camp Office, utilizing all of her skills gained as a past BDC Tent Counselor, STAR Head, and Sailors Hill Head. Liz will help train our staff and like Mona, manage the smooth flow of information across camp as our primary contact person for parents and guardians. Welcome to your new role at BDC, Liz!

BDC NOW: Each month, Misa and Rob travel to the Cape for a day of meetings at the "home office." We typically stop at Crosby Beach in Brewster to let Indigo romp and to check in on Cape Cod Bay. During one such trip, we waved good bye to Mona and hello to Liz. Transitions are always bitter-sweet and we think this photo captures the moment very well!
Camper Note
Sometimes writing a note to let someone (or some people) know just how you feel is a great way to GIVE BACK. Here is what this note from a BDC camper to the entire BDC Staff says - with creative spelling corrections in ( ) for ease of reading: "The BDC Staff are fun, loving, and caring people who (want) to help kids have fun. They get to choose their own part in BDC such as a tent counselor, a hill head, BDC Office, or (activity) head. Some have been here since a camper and some have just started. Either way once you meet them, they will change your life forever."  Being a camp counselor surely embodies the notion of GIVING BACK. Soon we will be telling you which BDC Staff will be returning to camp in 2013! Stay tuned....
Food Drive
This past summer at BDC, campers innitiated a food drive to GIVE BACK to our local community food bank. Campers and Counselors enjoyed this activity so much that we think a new camp tradition was born!
Wishing you and your family
