Irish Boat Shop Inc.Water Levels on the Rise
Water Low Water High

Two years ago, we were dredging our harbors and preparing for record low water levels. Now, we are seeing levels that are well above average and projected to increase further in the coming months. Currently, the water levels in Lake Michigan-Huron are 23" above the chart datum (the level displayed on nautical charts) and up 13" from the previous year! What does all this mean? It means deeper water for your boat!

Irish Boat Shop Inc. Say Hello to Scott MacDonald!
Scott MacDonald

Scott is our new Service Manager in Charlevoix. Scott learned to sail on the Bras d'Or Lakes of Cape Breton Island Nova Scotia, while summering at the family farm. With such brisk conditions one becomes adept at pram sailing quickly. This background served him well later in life as he crewed on the HOOD Sailmakers' corporate J24 campaign in Newport, RI.

Scott established the US West Coast Doyle Sailmakers office in Los Angeles and maintained the brand presence including Lake Michigan racing support. These successes put Scott forward to manage technical solutions for the mega-yacht audience as new technologies were emerging for entertainment and communication integration.

Scott became a leader in new Superyacht construction and refit for technical solutions as the demand for internet connectivity, movies and onboard music advanced. He was part of three new builds at the famous Lursseen shipyard in Germany and four projects at Heesen in The Netherlands. Working with individual clients, their tailored requirements, and manipulating technology to perform in the marine environment, have become Scott's forte.

We are glad to have Scott's project management expertise combined with his corporate training to lead our Charlevoix service operation. In his free time, Scott trains service dogs.

Irish Boat Shop Inc. Summer Opportunities!

The water quality of Lake Michigan has been monitored in Little Traverse Bay through the Watershed Council's Volunteer Lake Monitoring Program since 1986, but currently lacks a volunteer monitor. The Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council seeks a motivated volunteer that will commit to collecting water quality data in Little Traverse Bay, 1-2 hours per week from early June through late August. Training and monitoring equipment are supplied by the Watershed Council, but the volunteer needs access to a boat. Volunteers in the program enjoy being out on the water while helping protect and learning about their favorite lake or bay.

We are also still looking for a few people to help us out in our Harbor Springs and Charlevoix Stores.
