| Boat of the Month: Sealegs Amphibious RIB |
The Sealegs Amphibious RIB, blends the driving ease and comfortable ride of a rigid inflatable boat with the ruggedness of an all terrain vehicle. Sealegs eliminates the need for a dock and makes haul out and storage a breeze. Drive down the beach and into the water in a matter of seconds for your next on-water adventure. An Evinrude 150hp outboard propels the boat to speeds up to 48mph on water, while a 24hp Honda inboard engine drives all the wheels up to 6mph on land. The hydraulic wheels are marinised and raise completely out of the water once you are underway. Sealegs is ideal for anyone with waterfront property wanting to enjoy the water right off of their beach. Please contact our Sales Department if you would like more information or to schedule a demo. |
| The Northern Michigan Sloop Turns 80 |
The Northern Michigan Sloops have been sailing the waters of Harbor Springs and Charlevoix since 1934. Conceived by Roy Kramer in order to have a uniform fleet of one-design race boats, the NMs made a fleet that eliminated the tendancy for the wealthiest competitor to have the best result. With an even playing field, the crew with the most skill would win the most races. Edwin H. Steedman was instrumental in persuading others in Northern Michigan to purchase NMs in the early days. Russell J. Pouliot built the first 18 NMs (numbers 1-12 and 14-19) in Detroit, starting in 1934. Numbers 20-23 were built in wood by Ted McCutcheon at Irish Boat Shop beginning in 1971. Numbers 24-27 were later built by the crew at Irish Boat Shop using fiberglass. Today, One-design racing is alive and well. The majority of the NMs have migrated to Harbor Springs. On August 1st, almost all of the NMs congregated in Harbor Springs for a celebration of their history. The NM August Championship will be held August 16th and 17th in Harbor Springs. |
