Projects in the Wood Shop |
This fall, Irish Boat Shop began work on a 22' lapstrake Block Island Boat. One of the most historically renowned American workboats, the Block Island Boat came to be in the fisheries off the coast of its native Rhode Island in the mid 1800s where they were used for daily fishing and transportation. During this process, we removed the midship's interior of the vessel and installed a new keelson, 4 new floor timbers, 24 new butt blocks, steam bent 18 new oak frames and fabricated douglas fir stringers and sheer clamps. After that, we put in the new midship bulkhead, ceiling, floor beams and floors, 2 mast steps, benches and applied a fresh coat of paint. This extensive undertaking took our Boatwrights 6 weeks to accomplish and resulted in a beautiful and professional wooden boat restoration.
