Traveling to Regattas by Air
 By Steve Sherman and Spencer Wiberley Flying to a regatta and chartering a new Optimist is an easy, no-pressure, and economical choice. With the Nationals being held in Michigan and the range of great "away" events, many of you will be traveling with your Opti gear for the first time. Here are a few tips to help things go smoothly. Tools: McLaughlin will be at most of the larger events and will have all the tools you need regardless of what brand boat you sail. But if you want to be independent, get yourself 2 each of the five-in-one multi-tools, extra sail ties and you can fix anything that breaks on the Optimist. Oh... don't forget the duct tape! A Pewaukee Primer

Wisconsin this year, and as a native Wisconsinite and former Pewaukee Yacht Club member, I thought I would offer some tips and advice for enjoying the Pewaukee and Greater Milwaukee area.
For Sailors:
First off, yes, the ice will be gone by May. That being said, the water will still be very cold. Be sure to check the seals on your dry suit if you have one. If not, a thick wetsuit underneath your foul weather gear should do the trick. 3mm at least. Pack clothes for all types of weather. Wisconsin in May can be sunny and 80, or 30 and snowing. Be prepared.
Local lake knowledge is a huge advantage on the inland lakes. Make friends with a local and ask them what lifts and headers to look for with every wind direction. Huge gains can be made on Pewaukee Lake by hitting.....
