Interagency Council on Homelessness Created in Mississippi
A Mississippi Interagency Council on Homelessness (MSICH) was recently created by the Mississippi Legislature and signed into law by Governor Phil Bryant. The purpose of the MSICH is to establish, develop, and implement a plan to reduce homelessness in the state that focuses on the needs of children, youth, families, individuals, and veterans. Membership will include representatives from the Governor's office, Legislature, state agencies, Continuums of Care coalitions, emergency shelters, local school districts, and other community organizations as well as Tuwanna Williams of The National Center on Family Homelessness. Many organizations, policymakers, and individuals across the state expressed the need for a MSICH over the past few years and contributed to its creation. This is a significant step forward in addressing homelessness in Mississippi.
