WomanVetDaughter Program Update: Trauma-Informed Care for Organizations Serving Female Veterans

The National Center, with support from the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation's Mental Health & Well-Being initiative, has launched a multi-site demonstration project to  implement a trauma-informed approach to serving women veterans who are homeless. Earlier this month, kick-off trainings on trauma and trauma-informed care were held at the three partner organizations: The New England Center for Homeless Veterans in Boston, MA; Veterans, Inc. in Worcester, MA; and Soldier On in Northampton, MA. Over the next year, The National Center will continue to work with the partner organizations to implement the Trauma-Informed Care for Women Veterans Experiencing Homelessness Guide for Service Providers.

Mom and Young Son ren Stories: Striving for Economic Independence

Maria has six children - four who are with her in a shelter and two who are living with her mother. She had to leave her home twice after episodes of domestic violence. Maria gets child support from the father of her children and has a job. However, she struggles to pay rent because it is higher than her income. She is trying her best to keep herself and her children out of harm's way and make ends meet. This story first appeared in the Florida Plan to End Child Homelessness.
