Program Update: START with Kids

StripesBoyDressGirl2The National Center's START with Kids (Shelter-Based, Trauma-Informed Assessment, Referral, and Treatment) program is providing trauma-informed, clinically driven care to children and families in emergency shelters in Worcester, MA. Shelters are currently enrolling and assessing families to learn about their experiences and identify their needs. After enrolling and assessing the families, the shelters will be conducting assessments and developing service plans for each child and offering a family group intervention, Strengthening Family Coping Resources. The National Center is supporting the shelters in implementing the program and providing on-going training. Learn more.

Congress Reauthorizes Violence Against Women Act

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) last week, after the U.S. Senate passed it earlier this year. It now goes to President Barack Obama for his signature, which is expected today. VAWA helps prevent domestic violence, supports survivors, and provide housing protections.
