National Walking Day is Tomorrow
 
The Health and Wellness Committee is challenging everyone to participate in the American Heart Association's National Walking Day tomorrow, April 6th.
 
Employers are urged to encourage jogging-women.jpgtheir employees to wear jeans and tennis shoes and create a 30 minute walk for their team. This 30 minute activity helps create awareness about the importance of being physically active. On this day, millions of people throughout the United States will come together to take those important steps toward a healthier life.

This series event will feature Speaker Jeff Peden, MEd, of Great Ideas LLC, who will present "THE HEART OF BUSINESS SUCCESS."  The description is as follows: 
 
You own a business, or you ARE the business. A million things to do and keep up with. What are the most important things to remember every day? What will contribute the most to your long-term success, and give you a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day? This presentation will discuss four areas you can focus on that will drive growth, profitability, and enjoyment from work.

1si Partnering with Develop New Albany for Next 8 O'clock Network 
              
1si is excited to partner with Develop New Albany for the next 8 O'clock Network, hosted by Strandz Salon and Threadz Boutique, 322 Vincennes St., in New Albany, from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. on April 14th.

The 8 O'clock Network, formerly the Network of Champions, is held the second Thursday of every month. Pre-register by noon April 13th to be entered into a drawing where eight lucky participants will be able to give a 30-second commercial in front of the entire room. In any event, you can expect the opportunity to make new connections and have some fun!

Future Leaders Advisory Group Invites Young Professionals to Kentuckiana's First Regional YP CONNECT
 
As Kentuckiana's first regional networking event for young professionals, the YP CONNECT offers millennials across multiple organizations the opportunity to connect. This event will bring networkers from across the region together to mix, mingle and strengthen our communities on Monday, April 18th from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Mayor Greg    Fischer will be in attendance from 5:30 - 6:00 to speak about his Compassionate City Plan
 
This event will also included members from the following YP organizations:
  •  Future Leaders Advisory Group (FLAG),
  •  Leadership Southern Indiana (LeadershipSI),
  • Young Professional Association of Louisville (YPAL),
  • Crane House Young Professionals,
  • Louisville Urban League Young Professionals and
  • the Jewish Federation of Louisville Young Adult Division (JFLYAD)

Every member business will be receiving a copy of the 2016 Membership Directory through the U.S. post office very soon.  We hope you use and enjoy the information we have presented.
 
While we make every effort to ensure accuracy in the directory, we depend on our 1,000+ members to keep our information up-to-date.  The content for the directory was current as of February 23, 2016.  If your information in the print directory is outdated, please contact Becky Ellenburg at BeckyE@1si.org so we may update your information for the online directory.

One Southern Indiana provides Local Location to Purchase the 2016 Pegasus Pin
 
As a partner of the Kentucky Derby Festival, 1si is celebrating becoming a Pegasus pin outlet. Why? For the first time, the Pegasus pin design features the state of Indiana in the upper left corner. Also included on the Pegasus Pin image is the newly opened Abraham Lincoln Bridge, the state of Kentucky in the lower right corner and the iconic Kentucky Derby Festival Corporate Pegasus in the lower right corner. The generic Pin is square and has a blue border with a green background.

The Pegasus pin is valuable in a number of ways.  Not only can purchasers win a variety of prizes, including a 2016 Honda CRV, but they also serve as admission to a dozen or more Kentucky Derby Festival events including Thunder over Louisville, Kroger's Fest-a-Ville and Chow Wagon, the U.S. Bank Great BalloonFest and the Waterfront Jam concerts.

Keep in mind, every Pegasus Pin is eligible to win weekly grand prizes as every Pegasus Pin envelope contains a Registration Card with an alphanumeric code that can be used to register for Weekly Grand Prizes.  The Weekly Grand Prize drawings will take place beginning Friday, March 18 through Friday, May 13, 2016.  Winners will be announced on the 7 p.m. WAVE 3 TV newscast.

Membership Derby Extended for One Week!     

The competition is stiff and requests for more time has led 1si to extending our Membership Derby Membership Campaign by one week! That means if you know someone who wants to be a member or needs to be a member of 1si, you have until April 15 to get them signed up in order to compete for fabulous prizes. The goal of the campaign is to add 100 new members.

Teams are in place but all members are invited to participate. Companies that join between now and April 1st will be eligible for a drawing to win an ad in the One Weekly (valued at $250).

In addition, 1si members and Membership Derby team members are being challenged to sign up prospects from out "Hot List". If a member signs up any of these teams before April 15, they will receive a special prize. The companies are:

POSCO Considering Port of Indiana-Jeffersonville for New Processing Center
Company Could Invest More Than $19 Million in Next Two Years
 
POSCO, a multinational company headquartered in Pohang, South Korea, and the sixth-largest steel producer in the world, is considering a site within the Port of Indiana-Jeffersonville for a new wire rod processing center. POSCO will appear before the Jeffersonville Redevelopment Commission today to seek its approval to proceed with a formal request to the Jeffersonville City Council to phase-in its property taxes.
 
The $19 million project, a joint venture between POSCO and JP Steel, would include a 120,000-square-foot facility to be constructed at 5146 Loop Road within the Port of Indiana-Jeffersonville. When construction is completed, POSCO estimates 60 high-wage positions will be created at the Jeffersonville facility. Click here to read more.
  
Registration Now Open for 2016 Golf Scramble

Dust off your golf bag and get your clubs ready; the "2016 Networking on the Green" Golf Scramble will be held on May 20th at Champions Pointe Golf Course in Henryville, Ind. This year's event features two flights, with shotgun starts at 8 a.m. or 1 p.m. Lunch is from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and there will be appetizers following the second flight.

Fees are $150 per person or $540 for a foursome, which includes green fee, cart fee, two drink tickets, lunch, and gifts as you round the course. You will also be eligible to participate in free putt in the putting contest sponsored by Centra Credit Union, marshmallow contest sponsored by Park Community Credit Union and hole-in-one contest sponsored by Coyle Chevrolet. There will also be a Beat the Pro and CEO Challenge. Donations are now being accepted for goodie bags and door prizes. Corporate and hole sponsorships are also still available. 1si Board Member Named IUS 2016 Distinguished Alumni 
          
Congratulations to Joey Rivera on being named the 2016 Distinguished Alumni by IU Southeast!

Rivera will receive the award during the 2016 Commencement ceremony at Freedom Hall at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville on Monday, May 9th.

Rivera has more than 25 years of experience providing leadership within the software engineering domain. A veteran with 30 years of military service in the U.S. Marine Corps and Army Reserve, Lieutenant Colonel Rivera is currently assigned to the U.S. Cyber Command, J6, and provides expertise in cyber warfare.

The Distinguished Alumni Award honors outstanding IU Southeast alumni who have made significant contributions to the community and are leaders in their professions. Each year, this award is presented to the recipient at Commencement. The following criteria are considered when selecting a recipient:
  • Personal and professional accomplishments
  • Community service
  • Post-graduation university involvement

Indiana Bicentennial Torch Run to Begin in Corydon

Corydon is looking to be a hotspot on September 9th as the starting line for the Bicentennial Torch Run. As the state's original capital, Corydon will be the first stop along a 3,200 mile route that weaves into each of Indiana's 92 counties. Nearly 2,000 torchbearers will participate in the relay.
