Who will be the Lucky ONE on March 17th?

Voting for the finalists of the One Southern Indiana (1si) 2016 "ONE" Awards has ended but the voting process was brisk, bordering on frenzied!  Over 1,600 votes have been cast and while the voting totals only count for 10% of the total score, it could be enough to push an organization running neck and neck over the finish line.  For those of you who have voted, thank you for registering your opinion on the best of the best. 

Now, it is time to register for the celebration of your favorite candidates.  Winners will be announced at the event on Thursday, March 17th from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. at Huber's Orchard, Winery and Vineyard's Plantation Hall in Borden, Ind. Tickets for the event are now on sale. Individual reservations for 1si members are $60 each with tables of eight available for $440, and guests are $85 each. Heartland to Present on Company Evolution at FLAG Event

How does a company develop over time? Do your contributions to the workplace impact the business' culture? Shelonda Darling, Training Specialist at Heartland Payment Systems, will present on how businesses 
change over time through the development of interpersonal communication, forward thinking and progressive action.
 
This "Heartland Way" presentation will include the history, culture and values of Heartland's Service Center, including how their model has evolved over time, helping to create a company where nearly 90 percent of employees would rate the company as a great place to work. This event will take place at Heartland Payment Systems at One Heartland Way, Jeffersonville, Ind. at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, February 29th. Participants will have the opportunity to tour the facility directly following the program.
This event is free to young professional members of 1si but registration is required.

Louisville Orthopaedic Clinic Opens Satellite Office in Southern Indiana
 
The providers and staff of the Louisville Orthopaedic Clinic (LOC) celebrated their expansion into Indiana with a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, February 10, hosted by 1si.The event was attended by the public, representatives of the City of New Albany, 1si Ambassadors and staff. The company's new office, located at 3605 Northgate Court, Suite 207 in New Albany, Ind., officially opened in Southern Indiana on January 4 to expand the company's footprint and ensure the continuation of the highest quality specialty orthopedic care. This is the first true expansion of the practice since Drs. Eggers and McAllister founded Louisville Orthopaedic Clinic in 1974 . Click here to read more.


1si Congratulates Board Member, Brad Seigel, on becoming the new Senior Vice President and General Manager of Horseshoe Southern Indiana Casino
                   
The Horseshoe Southern Indiana Casino named Brad Seigel, a 1si board member, as its new senior vice president and general manager. Seigel takes over the position from John Smith, who had been named to lead the Harrison County casino, hotel and convention center in September 2013.

Seigel has served as assistant general manager and vice president of finance since 2010. Prior to that, he served in a variety of roles with the casino's parent, Caesers Entertainment Corp. (Nasdaq: CZR).

"He has an established rapport with the property's team members, strong relationships with local business and community leaders and a nuanced understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the market," said Regional President Dan Nita in a press release.
 
Seigel holds an MBA from the Olin School of Business at Washington University and a bachelor's degree in Accounting and Business Administration from the University of Kansas. He was named a Business First CFO of the Year Finalist in 2012 and was recognized as a Forty under 40 in 2013.

Pick your Winning Horse in the 2016 Membership Derby       

Can you hear the bugle?  You are being called to the post!

 
1si will be conducting its 2016 Membership Derby next month and we need your help to win this race.  From March 11th to April 8th, teams of ten will be working to increase the membership of One Southern Indiana, with a final push to the finish line being held April 4-8, 2016.     

 
The Membership Derby will include an Race Horses and Jockeysopportunity to "champion" one of 1si's not-for-profit members who will be chosen by a team whose goal is to bring in ten or more new members.  Not only will the winning horse get to skip its 1si membership dues for 2016, but teams and individuals will also have an opportunity to win fabulous prizes.  In addition, each team and not-for-profit organization will get special mentions during the campaign online, in the One Weekly and at events!

Beware of Chamber Scam                   

Watch out for scammers posing as representatives from the American Chamber of Commerce. They are targeting small business owners and their employees. The "chamber representative" will ask to verify general business information as well as employee information. The catch: There is no American Chamber of Commerce. Click here to read more.

March Pearls to feature Manufacturer, Anne Coates

The March Pearls of Wisdom program features Anne Coates, president of American Plastic Molding Corporation (APM).

APM was started in 1971 by Anne's late husband, Floyd Coates. Anne worked alongside Floyd as the vice-president of the company before becoming president. APM, located in Scottsburg, is an employee-owned and operated company with a focus in injection molding, finished goods assembly and engineering, that generates $20 million in annual sales.

Pearls of Wisdom, a quarterly signature event of 1si, features a keynote speaker who is a successful business woman followed by table conversation. Each table is led through a discussion on the keynote's presentation by a table facilitator.

At the end of the series, a strand of pearls will be given away. You must be present at the December Pearls of Wisdom event to win the strand of pearls.

Office of Community and Rural Affairs Designates Floyd County as Indiana Site Certified Gold                    
 
The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) announced the Durgee Road Industrial Site, located in Floyd County, as Indiana Site Certified (ISC) Gold.The ISC certification program validates sites that are ready for economic development. The Indiana Site Certified Gold, which builds upon the Silver tier by requiring a minimum of 20 contiguous acres, a location no more than 5 miles from a state highway, a completed geo tech study, a seismic hazard map, proper zoning, a desktop archaeological investigation, utilities be located to the property line or future build be located in public right-of-way and area be free from recognized environment concerns.
