 Legislative Breakfast to Take Place in February

It's an election year. Don't miss your opportunity to speak to your elected officials. One Southern Indiana (1si) is hosting the 2015 Legislative Breakfast from 8:30-10 a.m. February 5 at Kye's 1 in Jeffersonville.
The breakfast features a moderated discussion and Q&A session with:

  • Representative Steve Stemler

TARC Announces Service Adjustments   
     
TARC will be adjusting service on seven bus routes effective Sunday, Jan. 31. Most of the service changes involve minor adjustments to pick-up times in response to traffic conditions and delays. The Route 65X - Sellersburg Express afternoon trips southbound from Ivy Tech will leave five minutes earlier to help address schedule delays due to congestion on I-65 during the Bridges Project. The trips leaving Ivy Tech at 3:45 pm, 4:50 pm and 5:25 pm will depart five minutes earlier at 3:40 pm, 4:45 pm and 5:20 pm. For a full list of changes visit the TARC website here.
MWBOC Nominations Now Open
 
The One Southern Indiana (1si) Minority & Women Business Owners' Conference (MWBOC) is proud to announce the opening of nominations for three awards at their annual conference, which takes place on April 11 this year at the Clarion Hotel Conference Center Louisville North.  There will be two categories of the 1si MWBOC Diversity Champion Award, based on employee count, which will recognize businesses who have demonstrated outstanding dedication toward ensuring all people live and work in an environment of equality, respect and fairness.  The Diversity Excellence Award will recognize an excellent disadvantaged, minority owned, woman owned, veteran owned and/or disabled veteran owned business. The award winners will be announced at the conference.
Applications for the 1si MWBOC Awards are available by emailing suzanner@1si.org.  Deadline for application is March 1, 2016 at 5:00 p.m.
Sales and Marketing Success Series: Overcoming Rejection to Achieve Your Goals

The first 2016 Sales & Marketing Success Series will take place on Friday, January 29th from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. (note the new time), and will consist of round table discussions focusing on overcoming the largest challenges to the sales and marketing professionals in attendance.  Be on top of the game and prep for the following discussion questions:
How do you deal with rejection?
How do you properly respond to rejection in person?
Why do individuals and companies not agree to move forward?
What are some of the ways you can turn rejection into a positive?

All Sales & Marketing Success Series events will take place bi-monthly at the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library.  As always, the event is free for members of One Southern Indiana (1si) and registration is $25 for future members.

Applications for the 1si 2016 "ONE" Awards will close Friday, January 29th at 5:00 p.m.  The "ONE" Award is a reinvention of the Southern Indiana Business Awards and recognizes the finest 1si member-owned businesses in one of four categories.  Nominees who submit an application will be judged by an independent panel.  Winners will be announced at the event on Thursday, March 17, 2016 from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. at Huber's Orchard, Winery and Vineyard's Plantation Hall in Borden, Ind. 
 
Finalists for these awards will be selected based on a variety of criteria including business history, community involvement, response to adversity, newly-created opportunities and innovation in products or services.  Click here to apply.

Savoy Fitness Relocates in Water Tower Square
 
William Savoy, owner of Savoy Fitness, celebrated the grand opening of his new facility at 1350 Woerner Avenue in Clarksville, Ind. on Friday, January 8th with a ribbon cutting held by One Southern Indiana (1si). The event was attended by the public, 1si Ambassadors and staff. The open house following the ceremony treated attendees to food and drink, a live DJ performance, massages, giveaways, and tours of the 5,200 square foot facility. Participants who donated coats, hats and gloves, which Savoy donated to Salvation Army, received discounts for Savoy Fitness Boot Camp. The business specializes in body transformation and athletic development, and aims to give its clients results in four hours or less a workweek. Click here to read more.
