Clark County Council Votes to Join Our Southern Indiana RDA
Floyd County Council Vote Expected Today at 4:00 p.m.
Washington County to Vote on August 20th at 9 a.m.

Last night, the Clark County Council passed the ordinance that will allow the county to join the Our Southern Indiana Regional Development Authority (RDA) with other Southern Indiana counties. The formed RDA will be applying for a state award of $42 million at the end of the month. The state is expected to choose two regions by the end of the year.

Scott County has also voted to join the RDA while Harrison County voted against the ordinance. Floyd County is expected to vote this afternoon at 4 p.m. and Washington County will reconsider its earlier vote on August 20th.

Washington County's reconsideration comes on the heels the endorsements by the Building & Development Association of Southern Indiana (230 business members) AND the Southern Indiana Realtors Association (the 6th largest realtors association in Indiana). Other supporters of the Our Southern Indiana Regional Development Authority include:

  •  The News and Tribune Editorial Board
  •  The Charlestown Chamber of Commerce
  •  The Southern Indiana Tourism Coalition

One Southern Indiana (1si) President and CEO, Wendy Dant Chesser, addressed the concerns of those who oppose the formation of the RDA. To see a break down of these concerns, click here.

At this time, 31 of the 92 counties in Indiana have voted to join a regional RDA. Nine other counties, including Floyd and Washington, are expected to make a decision by the end of the month. See map below.

We believe there IS A COST TO DOING NOTHING! As regions around the state grow stronger, Southern Indiana will fall behind, not only in economic competitiveness but also in our ability to compete within the state for resources and projects. We urge your support of the Ordinance to establish the RDA!

night-lights-city.jpg
This past week I had the privilege to represent the South Central Indiana Economic Development Group (www.southcentralindiana.com) during the State of Indiana's marketing trip to New York City.  The SCIEDG is a regional partnership made up of economic development professionals from ten counties in south central Indiana, Duke Energy, Hoosier Energy and the River Ridge Commerce Center all committed to the growth and prosperity of "South Central Indiana, USA" - a region of over 365,000 people located in the Midwest. By pulling together and synchronizing our talents, amenities and resources, we are able to market our region to a much larger audience.

Our participation in the state's marketing trip furthers our mission to attract new commerce and create new Hoosier jobs in south central Indiana and enriches One Southern Indiana's economic development efforts, as well. Click here to read more about Matt Hall's trip.

TARC Service Eliminates the #65X - Sellersburg Express mid-day round trip Effective Aug. 16
TARC will make service changes effective Sunday, Aug. 16 which will eliminate the #65X - Sellersburg Express mid-day round trip. The changes, which were proposed in April and followed by a public comment period which included public meetings, are due to the low ridership.
In Louisville, the changes will result is less frequent bus service on sections of Fourth Street, Broadway and Bardstown Road, and Dixie and Preston highways. Passengers on those routes are advised to check schedules online a   t www.ridetarc.org or use the Google online trip planner because bus arrival times at stops will change.
Service reductions were proposed to address a budget shortfall in the fiscal year that began July 1. To read about the specific changes to TARC Service, click here.
