State Budget Passes with Regional Cities $84 Million Intact

Our Southern Indiana Team Ramping up to Submit Application

The Our Southern Indiana project team is thrilled that the Indiana Biennium Budget, which was approved by both houses of the General Assembly on April 30th, includes $84 million for the state's Indiana Regional Cities Initiative. The Indiana Regional Cities Initiative allows the State of Indiana to be a financial partner with regions that develop a strong vision, plan and partnership to facilitate significant investment in the region.

"This is great news for Southern Indiana," commented Wendy Dant Chesser, president and CEO of One Southern Indiana. "Hundreds of Southern Indiana and metro area residents contacted Indiana legislators in support of the Regional Cities Initiative and we are truly thankful for their support. Now our goal will be to submit the best proposal we can, highlighting all Southern Indiana has to offer and persuading the IEDC that our region is the best investment the state could make."

It is expected the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) could be accepting applications as early as this summer, and will select two regions of the state to receive benefits from this new program. If designated a regional city, Southern Indiana could receive grants and loans to help leverage funding for quality of place projects throughout the region.
