Evan Williams is the only active bourbon distillery and visitors center currently downtown, and is located on Main Street right along Whiskey Row. They recently celebrated their one year anniversary. Several other bourbon visitor centers have been announced and will be opening downtown in the next few years.

Dykstra to speak at March Pearls of Wisdom Series
 Register early for the first Pearls of Wisdom for 2015. Our speaker will be Cathe Dykstra, Chief Possibility Officer and President and CEO of Family Scholar House.
About our speaker:
Cathe Dykstra has a B.A. in Economics from Wake Forest University, with banking and financial experience as well as over 20 years of experience in social work where she assisted special populations through innovative approaches to attaining and maintaining self-sufficiency. As the Chief Possibility Officer, President and CEO of Family Scholar House, Dykstra is committed to promoting the importance of education as an asset that appreciates over time and provides long-term self-sufficiency through career-track employment. She sees her role as changing the paradigm for work with families in poverty from short-term support to long-term solutions.

1si intern recognized as a nominee for Intern of the Year

1si was represented at the Indiana Chamber's ninth Annual IMPACT Awards Luncheon by staff accompanying former intern, Shelby Orange, who was being recognized as a nominee for INTERN of the Year through the Indiana INTERNnet program. Orange was among 30 nominees who were recognized at the luncheon. Orange's contributions to 1si included supporting events, event photography, creating a social media plan and implementing and managing the 1si Instagram page.

Protect Your Tax Refund - Keep Your Identity Safe
 It seems like every day we hear about a new data breach, a company being hacked, or someone's identity being stolen. Do you know why? Because criminals make a business out of identity theft. In fact, last tax season, the Indiana Department of Revenue upped its security to battle identity theft criminals and stopped $88 million in attempted identity theft tax returns.
You might be wondering what identity theft has to do with the Indiana Department of Revenue. Criminals steal real taxpayer identities and file tax returns to request and steal the victims' refunds. Identity theft criminals submitted 74,000 fraudulent returns the department identified and stopped during the 2014 tax season. The department helped thousands of legitimate taxpayers realize their identities had been stolen.

Regional Cities Initiative Update
1si announced that the taskforce for the Southern Indiana Regional Cities Initiative (SIRCI) has chosen BNIM as the Indiana Economic Development Corporation recommended urban planning firm to help the taskforce develop a complete "World-Class Communities" plan for this region. BNIM, the 2011 National Architecture Firm Award Winner, is located in Kansas City, MO and has worked on similar projects in Kansas City MO, Branson, MO, and Riverside, MO along with North Charleston, SC, and Springfield, MA.
The next step calls for the task force to work with BNIM to develop a regional vision, identify strategic initiatives and help the task force prepare its proposal to the state, pending the general assembly approves the Regional Cities Initiative. Online conversations, regional workshops and public forums to solicit suggestions will all be used to inspire interest and to ensure that a variety of projects that will benefit all the citizens of Floyd and Clark Counties, as well as the contiguous counties, are chosen.
