"New Era In History of the Clean Water Act"
ANNOUNCED TODAY!
Hmmmmmm.......Shortly after a bill rescinding EPAs Waters of the US Rule heads to the Senate the USEPA is to announce a NEW HISTORIC REDEFINITION of WATERS OF THE US today!
Washington - In a historic step for the protection of clean water, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Army finalized the Clean Water Rule today to clearly protect from pollution and degredation the streams and wetlands that form the foundation of the nation's water resources.
"Today's rule marks the beginning of a new era in the history of the Clean Water Act," said Assistant Secretary for the Army (Civil Works) Jo-Ellen Darcy. "This is a generational rule and completes another chapter in history of the Clean Water Act. This rule responds to the public's demand for greater clarity, consistency, and predictability when making jurisdictional determinations. The result will be better public service nationwide."

EPA Full Steam with 'Waters' Protection Rule,
but TROUBLE AHEAD
By JENNY HOPKINSON 5/27/15 10:41 AM EDT
The Obama administration on Wednesday launched a sweeping measure to protect the nation's waterways and wetlands - an initiative that faces a fierce counterattack from powerhouse industries like agriculture, oil and home-building.
On its face, the final "Waters of the United States" rule is largely a technical document, defining which rivers, streams, lakes and marshes fall under the jurisdiction of the EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers. But the industries and their allies in Congress condemn it as a massive power grab by Washington, saying it will give bureaucrats carte blanche to swoop in and penalize landowners every time a cow walks through a ditch. And it comes amid years of complaints from Republicans about President Barack Obama's regulatory agenda, which has encompassed everything from power plants and health insurers to Internet providers and for-profit colleges.

Bill Rescinding EPA 'Waters of the U.S.' Rule Heads to Senate
- The effort to take control of the Environmental Protection Agency's definition of "the waters of the United States" has made its way to the United States Senate.

Posted May 22, 2015 at 9:05 AM A Republican effort to take control of the Environmental Protection Agency's definition of "the waters of the United States" has made its way to the United States Senate. House Resolution 1732, introduced by Congressman Bill Shuster (R - Hollidaysburg) targets the EPA and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' controversial proposed rule regarding the waters over which it has jurisdictional authority under the federal Clean Water Act. Having stoked fears across the nation that the proposal would extend federal control from navigable waters to farmer's ditches, the rule has been the target of Republican lawmakers since its appearance in the Federal Register in April 2014. If passed and signed into law, HR 1732 would halt any progress on the proposal, requiring the EPA to withdraw it and any final rule based on it. MORE |
