Huge Recycling Event October 24 in Libertyville |
After I sent out my newsletter this morning I received a call from the Village letting me know that at the October 26 Board Meeting, Mundelein Mayor Steve Lentz will ask the Board of Trustees to delay any action on the overnight parking restriction. Instead, Mayor Lentz will ask the Board to direct staff to further review issues related to parking enforcement and amendments needed on existing parking regulations. Mayor Lentz stated, "This is a more strategic approach to addressing the overall on-street parking concerns expressed by the community." The proposed overnight parking ordinance will not be discussed.

I also found out today that the last remaining section of the Des Plaines River Trail opens tomorrow! Trail users can now enjoy a continuous uninterrupted north/south venture stretching 31.4 miles from Russell Road just south of the Wisconsin border to Lake Cook Road. This fulfills a vision that began in the early 1960's when members of the first Forest Preserve Board expressed a desire for establishing a greenway to protect the Des Plaines River floodplain and to preserve the river corridor as a nature preserve. In the mid-1970's, District planners began to sketch out plans for a multi-purpose recreational trail system that would follow the river's edge through the greenway and span the entire length of the county. Over the last 54 years, there were 142 separate acquisitions totaling 4,910 acres required to piece together the land needed to build the trail. Today, the Des Plaines River Trail and Greenway parallels the river as it winds its way through 12 forest preserves and protects more than 85% of the river in Lake County.
