Low Cost Pet Vaccination Clinic June 6 in Mundelein
Seniors 55 and older receive free rabies innoculations for pets
|
Low-cost pet vaccination clinics provide a convenient and affordable way to keep pets up to date with their shots and rabies tags. Pets are taken on a first come first served basis. All animals brought to a clinic must be at least four months old. Dogs must be leashed and cats placed in carriers. Only cash will be accepted on site. For more information, call: 847.377.4700.

65 Year Old Homeowners-Are you receiving you Senior Homestead Exemption?

We all just received our property tax bills that are due on June 3 and September 3. If you are a homeowner and over 65 you should be receiving a senior exemption. This exemption results in hundreds of dollars of savings. Please check your tax bill to make sure you are receiving the exemption. If you have questions, please call the Fremont assessor at 847 223-2846. If you live outside Fremont township, please call your local assessor.
Please mention this to your neighbors! We have many people coming into the assessors office who were unaware of this! If you don't know if you have signed up, call your local assessor.

Property Taxes Due June 3

The first payment of your Property Tax bill is due June 3, 2015.
Frequently asked questions
- Unsigned and postdated checks will not be held and may incur additional fees.
Payments can be made:
- In person at the Lake County Treasurer's Office, 18 N. County Street by cash, check (payable to County Collector) or with credit card (Master Card, Visa & Visa Debit, Discover). An added fee of 2.15% is charged to each credit card transaction and $3.95 for Visa Debit.
- Online payments can be made with credit cards. An added fee of 2.35% is charged to each credit card transaction; this fee is added and collected by a third party credit card processing company. This fee will be shown separately from your tax amount on your credit card statement. Absolutely no additional funds are provided to any taxing district from these transactions. When using this option, please make sure your line of credit covers the tax payment amount as well as the additional fee.
- E-check online cost is $1.00 per transaction, maximum of $50,000.00, including fee.
- By phone with Interactive Voice Response (IVR), Phone # 1.877.690.3729, Jurisdiction code # 7021 will be needed to complete transaction.
- Automatic withdrawal from checking or saving account, application must be completed and received by the treasurer's office 14 days prior to the 1st installment.
- Payments can be made at most Lake County local banks. Banks will accept payments from the day the bills are released through the 2nd installment due date.
- Two drop box locations are open 24 hours a day for your convenience. The boxes are open from the day the bills go in the mail through the 2nd installment due date.
- E-banking: Those that pay their bills through their local bank's website should be aware that these payments do take additional time to be received and posted. It is extremely important that you add your Property Index Number to that record so the payment can be properly posted.

Mundelein Craft Beer Festival
|
Mundelein Community Connections and Tighthead Brewing Company will host the 4th Annual Mundelein Craft Beer Festival on Saturday, June 6, 2015 from 1p.m. to 5 p.m. Advance tickets will be $40 and day of the event tickets are $45. The festival will be held in the green space in front of the new Village Hall across from the Metra parking lot and Tighthead Brewing Company in Downtown Mundelein.
Tickets grant guests admission to the festival, a souvenir tasting glass, unlimited samples from over 30 breweries and great live music. Food will be available for purchase from local restaurant vendors and food trucks. Designated driver tickets are available, as well. Public Hearing on Aptakisic Road
|
The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) is conducting a Public Hearing to provide an overview of the findings of the Aptakisic Road Preliminary Engineering and Environmental (Phase I) Study and to present the preliminary Preferred Alternative. The purpose of the hearing is to seek public input on the proposed 5-lane roadway improvement for Aptakisic Road, beginning at IL Route 83 on the west to Buffalo Grove Road on the east. The proposed improvement will address safety, existing and future capacity, mobility, and operational deficiencies associated with this section of roadway. The hearing will be conducted in an open house format, and interested persons may attend anytime between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to view exhibits, provide comments, and meet with LCDOT and study team representatives.

Free Habitat Walks for Seniors in the Forest Preserve

The Forest Preserves presents a walking series for seniors, focusing on the various habitats in the county. The intent is not only to showcase a variety of habitats found in Lake County, but to also introduce participants to many different preserves. Habitat Walks for Seniors, are guided by a Naturalist and are paced to the group's ability. Generally held the first Wednesday of every month, Habitat Walks for Seniors begin at 9:00 AM.

How do I recycle or dispose of latex paint?

Latex Paint is NOT a Hazardous Waste.
Swalco wants your oil-based paints and associated products such as stains, "Top Coats" (polyurethanes shellac), paint thinner, mineral spirits, spray paints, etc...plus all the other accepted materials...
So how can you determine what type of paint you have?
On the paint can label there are a few lines about "Clean-up". If you can use soap and water to wash up spills or clean your brush: that's a water-based paint. If you need any type of chemical to wash up spills or clean your brush: that's an oil-based paint.
Please don't pour latex paint down your sink drain, or flush it or pour into your community waste/stormwater system, or spread it out onto your lawn to dry..there are safe, easy and time effect methods available!!
The good news is there are several options for disposing/recycling water based paint.
Earth Paint Collection Systems acts as a central contact for latex paint recycling. They can assist with finding locations currently accepting Latex Paint throughout Lake County - Please call (847) 231-6044 for additional information.
You can contact your local Ace Hardware store - the majority of locations do recycle latex paint. You might want to reach out to a few stores in your surrounding community to find the less expensive option - The recycling fee is typically $2.00 to $5.00 per the gallon (plus you don't have to deal with the mess!)
Or, as the last option, treat the latex paint and dispose through your regular garbage hauler. Leave the lids off, pour clay cat litter, (or shredded paper, sand or sawdust) into the can, stir to the consistency of thick oatmeal (no longer in liquid form), leave the treated paint cans outside your garbage can on your regular garbage pickup day (please don't exceed 3-4 cans per week).
The added absorbent material helps bind the liquids together, reducing the possibility of the paint splattering not only in the truck, but the roads and the vehicles behind the hauler. If you're dealing with completely empty paint cans (no residual liquid at all), simply remove the lids and leave out as described above.
Another point worth mentioning: if the garbage hauler spots the cans with the lids still on, they may assume no attempts to solidify the paint were made and they may not take the paint cans. Focus on transparency!

Household Chemical Waste Events

The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County will hold a household chemical waste collection May 26 at its facility, 1311 N. Estes Street Gurnee. Appointments are required to ensure safety and efficiency. Only residential waste can be brought to the collection, which is free to Illinois residents. Schedule an appointment
The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County is hosting a household chemical waste collection event on Saturday, June 6, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Wauconda High School, 555 North Main Street.

Where do I dispose of my electronics?
There are Six drop off sites that collect electronics through SWALCO's recycling program in 2015. Please visit the SWALCO website @ swalco.org for more information. The SWALCO website will be regularly updated to reflect any additional program details. There is still no cost for residents to drop off electronics at these Lake County locations. The locations and hours of operation are set by the host of the collection site and any questions regarding their procedures should be made to them. If you have used towels, sheets or blankets that need to be recycled, please consider bringing them to Fremont Township at 22385 Rt 60, Mundelein to be donated to local Animal Shelters and Rescues. Please drop them in the bin on the front porch. This keeps them out of the landfill and puts them to good use.
We also accept eye glasses and shoes to be recycled year round. If you are disposing of shoes that have laces, please tie the laces together. Thanks to our residents, we recycled 1240 pairs of shoes in the last twelve months! |
