Village of Mundelein Business Development Update |
I have been getting questions about Walmart and the property across from Target, so I contacted Mundelein Village Administrator John Lobaito. He forwarded me this information to pass along.
▪Wal-Mart Corporation remains interested in building a Super Wal-Mart Center in Mundelein. Wal-Mart officials and the property owner, Oak Creek Plaza, LLC, are in active discussions regarding the purchase of the property. Exact groundbreaking date is dependent upon completion of the real estate transaction between Wal-Mart and the property owner. Mundelein has approved an Economic Incentive Agreement with the Oak Creek Plaza, LLC for the construction of a small commercial building on an out lot of the shopping center.
▪The vacant land across from the Mundelein Super Target is actively being marketed by the property owner, McLaughlin Property with support from Mundelein officials. At the present time, Mundelein is not aware of any development activity on this property, however, Mundelein staff is aware that the property owner is seeking buyers that will develop the property in its entirety or develop portions of the property.
▪The Dominick's vacancy continues to be a challenge for both Mundelein officials and residents alike. Over the past couples of months Mundelein staff have reached out to a number of different grocery store including: Heinen's, Whole Foods, Sunset Foods, Fresh Farms, Lewis Produce, Kroger, Piggly Wiggly, Butera, Garden Fresh, Fresh Thyme Farmers Market, Joseph's Market, Angelo Caputo's, and Valli Produce.
The owner of the Long Meadow Commons Shopping Center, Brixmor Property Group, owns and operates the largest wholly-owned grocery-anchored shopping center portfolio in the United States and 522 properties across 38 states. 70% of Brixmor's shopping center portfolio is anchored by major grocers like Kroger, Pubix, Safeway, H-E-B, Giant Eagle, Stop and Shop, Jewel-Osco, ShopRite, and Trader Joe's. Therefore, the Village of Mundelein remains optimistic about filling the former Dominick's space given Brixmor's ongoing and extensive relationships with grocers across the U.S. Further, the Village has outlined and communicated an attractive economic incentive package for the right grocer.

Please take a moment to view this video from the Lake County Department of Transportation. It reminds you of safety issues when driving behind a snow plow and Scott's Law. Parents, it would be good for your teens to see it also.

The Electronics Collection Program Will Resume |
At its meeting on December 18, the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County's (SWALCO) Executive Committee voted to recommend the Agency enter into a contract with Dynamic Recycling to resume the Agency's successful electronics recycling program. The contract would not exceed $200,000 and the funding would come from SWALCO's reserve funds. The contract with Dynamic Recycling must be approved by the full SWALCO Board of Directors, which meets on January 22, 2015, in order to become effective. However, SWALCO is in discussions with Dynamic Recycling to determine if the company is willing to begin work without final contract approval in hopes of having some collection sites back in operation before the end of this year.
If the contract is approved by the SWALCO Board it will provide funding for up to eight permanent collection sites dispersed throughout Lake County. SWALCO also expects to be able to continue to hold one day collection events in other parts of the County as funding allows. More information regarding the collection sites will be provided to the public once all arrangements have been finalized with the governmental entities hosting the sites.
Swalco.org will have the dates and locations of the year round recycling locations as the information becomes available.

Recycle towels, sheets, blankets, eye glasses, shoes
|
If you have used towels, sheets or blankets that need to be recycled, please consider bringing them to Fremont Township at 22385 Rt 60, Mundelein to be donated to local Animal Shelters. Please drop them in the bin on the front porch. This keeps them out of the landfill and puts them to good use.
We also accept eye glasses and shoes to be recycled year round. We are also in need of personal items for the food pantry. |

Public Meeting January 12 |
Lake County Housing Authority Holds Public Meeting Jan. 12 on Plans for Midlothian Manor
The Lake County Housing Authority (LCHA) is planning to lease Midlothian Manor, located 22843 W North Lakewood Lane in Lake Zurich, to PADS Lake County to provide a permanent home for 14 individuals who have faced chronic homelessness, as well as mental illness. PADS will lease the individuals efficiency apartments.
LCHA and PADS will hold a public meeting to provide information to residents and answer questions on January 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ela Township Library. Residents can submit questions in advance of the meeting to PADS Lake County through its website, www.padslakecounty.org, or email questions about this project to PADS at midlothianmanor@padslakecounty.org.
Many residents have raised questions about the review and approval process regarding this action. The Lake County Board does not have a direct role in this decision. The County Board appoints two members to the Housing Authority, but the Housing Authority is a separate public entity created by Illinois law. It has its own budget, its own funding sources, and maintains independent management of its operations and decisions.
The Housing Authority's proposal requires an administrative occupancy permit from the Lake County Department of Planning, Building and Development. Although County staff has had preliminary discussions with the Housing Authority, LCHA has not yet submitted a permit application for the use.
