Lake County Public Works to Replace Meters |
If Lake County Public Works provides your water, you will receive a letter regarding the replacement of water meters.
Lake County is embarking on a program that will replace about 20,600 water meters with new automated meters. The new meters will replace older, out of date units with new technology that will identify high water usage and potential leaks. New software will also provide customers on-line access to usage information. The new meters will result in smarter water use for customers.
The meters automatically transmit data wirelessly and eliminate the need to manually read each meter. The transmitter uses a radio frequency (with total transmission time of less than 15 seconds per day) that is significantly less than a cell phone or the Wi-Fi signal available at a coffee shop. This allows the County to be more efficient and save money by preventing recording errors, and minimizes wear and tear on county vehicles. The water meter replacement project also supports Lake County's sustainability goals.
Every water customer will receive a new water meter at no cost. It will take about two years to replace all of the meters in the County water systems. The County has awarded a contract to Professional Meters, Inc. (PMI) to perform meter replacement and each customer will receive a notification when meters in your area are scheduled to be replaced. Please note, a PMI representative will need to access your home to replace your meter. The County and PMI will work with you to arrange a convenient appointment time.
Visit the project website at www.lakecountyil.gov/publicworks, or contact Public Works at 847 377-7500 if you have additional questions regarding this project.

I have heard from some residents that this program has saved money on prescriptions. I haven't had this in the newsletter lately, but have had requests for it.
Americans are paying more for prescription drugs than ever before. But there are now a number of prescription drug assistance programs in place to help decrease the costs.
